We live in a modern age where mobile phones and laptops are an integral part of our every day life. We use them in homes, offices and on the go. However, especially in the summer months and at high temperatures, it is advisable to watch out for their overheating, which can also damage them.

Although Apple products contain lithium-ion batteries that charge faster and last longer, they are bothered by heat. Even the cold can reduce the battery capacity, but after bringing it to room temperature it will return to its original value. In the case of plus temperatures, however, the situation is different. There could be a permanent reduction in battery capacity, which means that it will not be able to power the device for as long after it has been charged. This is also why Apple products include a safety fuse that shuts down the device as soon as it gets too hot.

Especially with older devices, you don't have to go far to do this. Just work in the sun and have a blanket under your MacBook. This will also prevent it from cooling and you can count on the fact that it will start to heat up nicely. If you sunbathe on the beach with your iPhone in its cover, you may not feel its heating, but you are certainly not doing it any good. Under no circumstances should you even charge your device this way.

You should use your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch in temperatures between 0 and 35°C. In the case of the MacBook, this is a temperature range from 10 to 35 °C. But the optimal temperature range is between 16 and 22 °C. So, on the one hand, covers are beneficial because they protect your device in a way, but when it comes to charging, you should rather take them off, especially when it comes to wireless.

The function is convenient, even with regard to the MagSafe Apple. Willy-nilly, however, there are losses here, as well as higher heating of the device. So you should avoid it in the summer months, whether the covers are compatible or not. The worst thing is to have your phone navigate in the car, charge it wirelessly, and have it positioned so that the sun shines on it.

How to cool the device

Of course, it is directly offered to remove it from the cover and stop using it. If you can, it's a good idea to turn it off, but often you won't want to. So close all applications that might be running in the background, ideally turn on the Low Power Mode, which in itself does not make such demands on the device's battery and tries to save it (and is also available in MacBooks).

If you have limited the device in terms of performance and battery requirements, it is also advisable to move it to a cooler environment. And no, definitely don't put it in the fridge to cool it down as quickly as possible. This would only condense the water in the device and you could say goodbye to it for good. Avoid air conditioning as well. The change in temperature must be gradual, so only some place in the interior where the air flows is suitable.
