The iOS 8 operating system is plagued with other annoyances. After failed update with 8.0.1 causing signal issues, two major bugs surfaced this week. iCloud Drive and QuickType are affected.

The first problem with iCloud Drive occurs when you factory reset your device. This can be done through several options in the Settings > General > Reset section. One of the options we find here is also the option to discard all phone settings (eg saved Wi-Fi networks, Notification Center settings, security and so on). This option should clear all preferences but not data.

However, some users who took advantage of this option claim that along with their settings, all data from iCloud Drive disappeared from their devices. Although the choice Reset all settings accompanied by the text “This will reset all settings. No data or media will be deleted.”, all iWork documents and data from other applications will disappear from the web storage. This problem first revealed one of the forum users MacRumors and the journalists of this website made a mistake they confirmed.

It appears to occur on both iPhone and iPad, regardless of model. Additionally, if you own multiple such devices, after a quick sync, your documents and data will disappear from them as well – including your Mac with OS X Yosemite. Unfortunately, iCloud does not offer any backup option and does not move deleted files to the trash, but just throws them away. Apple has not yet commented on the problem or the options for remediation.

The second problem is somewhat less serious, but it is also annoying, especially for foreign users. The QuickType predictive technology that Apple added to the keyboard in iOS 8, according to a French blog iGen.fr it also adds usernames and passwords to the word menu. This means that if someone peeks under your fingers while you're typing, or if you lend someone your phone, there's a chance they'll be able to read your e-mail or online banking credentials.

QuickType remembers these data after they are entered in the login forms of sites visited in Safari and does not "forget" even passwords that have already been changed. At the same time, iOS 8 does not give its users the opportunity to view the list of words that QuickType has learned, so it is de facto impossible to deal with this error other than to turn off the predictive keyboard (Settings > General > Predictive).

The solution is, of course, to also use Czech or Slovak, as these languages have not yet received this new function - and not only that.
