In today's episode of our regular series "Back to the Past", we will talk about two giants, but only one of them was actively involved in the field of technology. We remember the day when the concert of the legendary king of rock'n'roll Elvis Presley was broadcast via satellite, and we also remember the day when Steve Jobs went on medical leave.

Elvis Sings Over Satellite (1973)

January 14, 1973 was a significant day not only for all fans of the legendary rock'n'roll singer Elvis Presley, but also for the field of technology. It was on this day that Presley's concert called Aloha from Hawaii Via Satellite took place. As the name suggests, live coverage of this performance was broadcast via satellite from the Honolulu International Center to an audience in the Asia-Pacific region. A day later, the king of rock'n'roll also saw the performance of the audience in a number of European countries, while the United States had its turn only on April 4 due to the Super Bowl.

Steve Jobs Takes a Medical Break (2009)

On January 14, 2009, an internal message was sent to the company's employees, in which Steve Jobs announced that he was taking a six-month medical leave. It was supposed to last until the end of June 2009. In the said report, Jobs stated, among other things, that he wanted to use his "health leave" to focus as much as possible on improving his health and at the same time allow the company to better focus on operations without its management would have to worry about the way the media is speculating about Jobs' condition. Steve Jobs suffered from a form of pancreatic cancer - it was diagnosed a few years before he went on medical leave, but at first only those closest to Jobs knew about this diagnosis.
