Virtual reality could come to iOS within two years (February 10)

Apple is set to launch an iOS-connected virtual reality device within the next two years, according to analyst Gene Munster. Munster's main source of speculation is the LinkedIn profiles of the California company's new hires, which point to virtual reality experience for as many as 141 of them.

Devices that would literally merge real objects with holographic elements through wearable products based on built-in cameras and sensors could be sold by Apple as a separate device.

While Apple's product isn't likely to be ready for two years, the California-based company could begin lending its technology to third parties as early as 2018. Such a partnership would be similar to the MFi program, which allows third-party companies to produce original accessories made directly for iPhones and iPads.

Recently, there has been more and more talk about Apple's work on virtual reality products, and it is likely that Apple will speak to this area in some way.

iPhones have become the best-selling smartphones in the US market over the past year. Up to 40 percent of purchased phones came from Apple, followed by Samsung with 31 percent, whose sales stagnated at the beginning of the year due to an underestimation of interest in the Galaxy S6 Edge model.

Both companies are well ahead of LG, which only controlled 10 percent of the market. According to the collected data, a third of iPhone users still own a model that is more than two years old, compared to only 30 percent of Samsung users. The United States is still the largest market for Apple, but China can soon be expected to take over this lead.
