Apple today according to plan released macOS Sierra, new operating system for your computers, the biggest innovation of which is unfortunately still too unusable for Czech users. The voice assistant Siri comes to the Mac with Sierra. The new macOS, which replaces the original name OS X, but also brings other news, such as improved sharing of documents on iCloud, better applications Photos or Messages that correspond changes in iOS 10.
You can download the new operating system for free in the Mac App Store, and the whole package is almost 5 gigabytes. MacOS Sierra (10.12) runs on the following computers: MacBook (Late 2009 and later), iMac (Late 2009 and later), MacBook Air (2010 and later), MacBook Pro (2010 and later), Mac Mini (2010 and later ) and Mac Pro (2010 and later).
Apple on its website presents more detailed requirements for installing macOS Sierra including what features won't work on older Macs. This is, for example, automatic unlocking using the Apple Watch.

An update for Safari has also appeared in the Mac App Store alongside the new operating system. Version 10 adds support for Safari extensions right from the Mac App Store, prioritizes HTML5 video for faster loading, battery power savings and greater security, improves security by running plug-ins only on authorized websites or remembers the zoom level of each page visited.
Please, when someone upgrades and you have Windows (8.1) at the same time, write to me if everything was without problems :) Thank you!
What does "win 8.1 at the same time" mean? Do you mean bootcamp?
Would it be possible to do some comparison of performance (perhaps via geekbench) and endurance with El Cap?
https://youtu.be/uV31_NOIRmY
Hi, I had geekbench 3 tryout 32-bit with El Capitan 10.11.6 single-core 2968b and multi-core 11634b with Sierra 10.12 single-core 3040 and multi-core 11738, I work on Macbook Pro 2012 non retina :) .. hang on it's too early to judge the battery, but time shows me similar to El Capitan..
So far, I have noticed that if I download the app from the appstore, the status is no longer displayed in the launchpad icon, nor is it in the quick menu until it is installed
The comparison with Yosemite is worse:

Hi, does a clean install via Utility setup work after a reboot? Or Capitan is still there.
Yeah, I'd be interested in that too.
I do not understand. Why so complicated and uncertain? An 8GB USB stick costs a few crowns and you can create a USB installer in a few minutes with one terminal command... ;)
Complicated and uncertain? So I don't agree with either one. Besides, it's gotten me out of trouble a few times.
I always have a USB stick with the installer of the current OS X (macOS) with me. And if anything happens, I can start installing anytime, anywhere, and in any amount. I don't need internet, wifi access, anything like that. Why download approx. 5GB again every time you reinstall, if it's enough once? However, you will only fully appreciate the charm of this method if you manage more than one Mack and not just play with one... ;)
Okay, I give up. It's probably more convenient in larger quantities.

Hello, I have a problem, I don't see the option to update to MacOS Sierra, I downloaded safari, pages and keynote, but there is nothing about the new system and the hw is certainly compatible, does anyone know what to do with it? I repeatedly performed the reset and logged out the user in the app store and changed the country .. nothing
If it is not because Apple is not M$ and does not force users to upgrade. You can find it on the first place in the mac appstore with the option to download….
…just click on the link in this article
First of all, I would ask the basic question: Do I even need to upgrade? ;)
If so, the best way is a clean install anyway, so…
They are overloaded, don't worry it will come.
Off topic: Can someone please confirm the following for me –
When I backup iPhone using iTunes on Mac, can I then transfer the backup to Windows and restore iPhone from this backup?
Thanks
Well, I don't know, I don't think so... but you can try.
And it won't work for you from iCloud? For me, I think it will work in your suggested way ;)
I transferred it from one Mac to another and it worked, so I think it will go Mac to PC
Backup is a platform-independent "package", so yes.
The point is that I have an iPhone 6s 128GB and a Lenovo laptop with a 120GB SSD, so I can't back up there and for God's sake I can't back up directly to an external drive. So I think I'll make a backup at my friend's Mac and then copy it to the 1 TB external drive.
Backup on Mac is probably the best idea and at the same time an option… ;)
hi, does Parallels Desktop work on macOS Sierra? And from which version?
Hello, I have no problem with the functionality of Parallels 11 in virtual, I have Win10 and macOS
Is it necessary to update to Parallels 11 first or is it enough after the update to Mac OS Sierra? What is better to make everything work for me? Thanks ;)
To be honest, I always install new macOS as a clean install and then reinstall the apps. If you're going to upgrade, I'd check where macOS stores temporary files after the cash upgrade to see if there's anything there. Personally, I use CleanMyMac for this, there is also application management in Siere, but what if it only contains the contents of the Parallels desktop.app folder, I have no idea. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/cffd396c49ede8319ac3ad419357e235a589b3d5c94df593b4cbfc21cd724175.png About Parallels.. I don't know what version you currently have, but on the net it is possible to upgrade to version 12, which is possible from version 10 and 11. Personally, if you use Windows 7 or XP in the virtual environment, the upgrade is not necessary. Parallels has new and new little things with each release, but it's up to you whether they're useful for you. It's best to test parallels after the upgrade and see if you notice a difference or if there is any instability.
I see I made a mistake, I have Parallels 11 and it offers me an upgrade to 12 which is optimized for Sierra. I am currently using win 8.1 in a virtual environment, as the DentalDesigner program does not yet work on win 10. So will Parallels 11 with win 8.1 work for me on Mac OS Sierra? :)
Make a complete backup, I think Apple also recommends it, and then happily do it. Parallels 11 worked for me already in the Sierra Beta program, only security patches will be released on Win 8.1, but nothing that will change the system's functionality.
Thank you very much :)
Paralells on Sierra only works since version 12.
No, I have Parallels 11 and it runs fine on Sierra?
version 11 runs like lightning for me too
The best Parallels upgrade is VMware Fusion. Parallels is probably the worst desktop virtualizer in terms of price/performance ratio. I was done with him a long time ago…
Well, but not all versions run on Sierra. Like version 6 - nothing. So another upgrade
Correctly! A clean install is key. The comp is cleaned up and there are no introduced problems... ;)
Does Adobe Lightroom 4 work for you under macOS Sierra? I would hate to have to buy a new version of Lr to change OS when the outdated one runs faster than the current version. Thanks
Before installing a new OS, I would recommend at least this: http://roaringapps.com/apps?platform=osx&os=el-capitan&status=✓
I finally succeeded in installing older Adobe applications on Sierra, specifically Adobe CS6. If Lightroom 4 matches it, you should be good to go. If you leave me the installer somewhere, I can test it in a virtual one that I have prepared for these purposes... Unfortunately, I only have Lightroom version 6 myself... ;)
Hello.
Question: Does unlocking with Watch work for you? That is, does it work the same as mine only when turning on the MacBook or longer sleep with a password request? But when I switch between logging in between two accounts (work/private), I always have to enter the password as it was before... Which is a shame, because this is what I was looking forward to the most...
Thanks.
Maybe it doesn't work for me at all, does it need to be set somehow or does it work right after the update?
Hi.
You have to go to the settings, i.e. System Preferences > Security & Privacy > and there you will find the item "allow unlocking Mac from Apple Watch"
If you don't have two-phase Apple ID verification turned on, it will prompt you to do so... And then you should be fine :)
PS: Of course, in addition to macOS Sierra, you must also have watchOS 3 on your watch :)
That will be the mistake, I didn't update my watch. Thanks a lot :)
Well, everything is nice, but useless to me. Unfortunately, due to the lack of a driver for the cutting plotter, I have to stay with Yosemite 10.10.5, and I can't afford to update to El Capitan, let alone Sierra. And the plotter manufacturer has not been able to make a driver for two years now …… respectively he made it, but it does not work with the older Illustrator ACS 3. Everything works in Yosemite and complicating my life with a new system that defacto forces me to buy a new ACS , which I don't need, I really don't need…
create a partition and install the new IOS. This is how I do it on a Mac pro. 1.1 which only runs El Capitan, Widle and Tiger is on an external drive. I also have older Ip cam hardware. system that does not support the new OSX.
Unfortunately, I can't do that, I'm limited by space on Air. And installing a second extra system with ACS3 just for the sake of one driver does not seem ideal to me. But thanks for the advice. Maybe I'll put the Yosemite system with ACS 3 and the driver on an external drive, which I'll boot only when I need it. But still, it's "scratching with the right foot behind the left ear"
test
Such a clean virtual machine with OSX will take a maximum of around 10-12GB... ;)
Hello, do you not know how to add a new tab in iwork applications and how to get a pip for a video from youtube?
Hi, just open Pages for example a new doc and then file -> new CMD+N or file -> open CMD+O to open a ready one. Every other document opens in a tab. As far as PIP in Safari is concerned, I have only figured out that I have to press the right mouse button twice in a row. The youtube settings appear for the first time.. and then the PIP options https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/eedf599938a5b1b31df1176de14f3906d51b3246696bb4e4ba63b7404820aba7.png
Thanks a lot, the frogs were only able to be activated with the help of the shift alt t combination. Then they stayed there normally.
I was disappointed that MacBook 2009 is supported on macOS Sierra and my MacBook Pro 2009 is no longer supported. Whereas the MacBook Pro 2010 has the same architecture as the MBP 2009. I don't get it.
Do you think this is a safe and appropriate way to get the Sierra on the MBP 2009? http://dosdude1.com/sierrapatch.html
In my opinion, it would be enough to edit the plist in the macOS Sierra installation package, in which the allowed models are defined. That's probably what the patch does. But I didn't go into details so I have no idea what exactly it does and how safe it is…
Hello, how are W10 running on Oracle's VirtualBox after the update? Thanks!
On which Mac? On which version of Virtualbox? And what is the problem? :D
My question is whether there will be any problems running W10 on VirtualBox after switching to Sierra. I haven't found anything yet, but a sure thing is a sure thing before I decide to move to the new macOS. Otherwise 21″ iMac late 2014, VB 5.0.10.
Generally speaking: Virtualbox is a virtualizer, i.e. a layer between macOS and Windows. If the virtualizer is fine, the virtualized system must be fine. I personally have experience with VirtualBox 5.1.4 and 5.1.6 and have not experienced any problems on macOS Sierra betas or GM (build 16A320). Again, I'll ask the obligatory question, is there anything compelling you to switch to macOS Sierra? If you have an ElCapitan, I don't think there is any need to rush…
Regarding virtualization, I don't know what went wrong, but Sierra runs beautifully, but running WIN10 in VMWare is "zero points". The wheel spins for about 10 minutes, then the message "Internal error" and the end.
Hello, am I the only one whose computer practically does not work after the update? It crashes terribly, applications get stuck and can only be turned off via the activity monitor (I'm already making a simple table in numbers after 5 and it stops being fun for me). I have reset the computer several times and it didn't help, I don't know much anymore.
What version of OS X did it update from? What computer? In any case, I recommend a clean installation (with formatting of the original system disk) using a pre-prepared USB installer (the Internet is full of instructions).
I switched from El Capitan, I have an iMac at the end of 2013, I hardly use the computer's memory, we have a server where we store practically everything, so I have a lot of free space. Now I'm told that the connected second screen may be causing the problem, otherwise I'll probably try a clean install and if that doesn't help either I'll go back to El Capitan :D
I recommend this procedure: Make a USB installer. Disconnect from Mack everything that does not need to be connected (second display). Clean installation, data recovery, reinstallation of applications, connection of peripherals... And I still have no idea what model of Mack it is, but luckily that's not so important, the decisive year is 2013... ;)
I thought that year was enough, but it is a Mac (27-inch, Late 2013), processor: 3,4 GHz Intel Core i5, memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2048 MB. I'll try a clean install, I really don't know what's wrong, thanks anyway :)
A clean install always solved similar problems in 99,9% of cases. So let it happen! :)
I'm quite surprised and scared that someone is talking about a clean installation as an obvious choice... Do you think that's important?
When moving to a new "major" version of the OS, it pays off for a number of reasons. Years of experience confirmed.
I did that too. With OSX I did it until 10.7, since then I just upgrade and so far (knock, knock), everything works as it should...
I just switched to user mode and it suits me very well :-)
Edit: the only thing I do after the upgrade is the PRAM reset...
Mode user = let your guard down. And the most dangerous thing of all is the false sense of security… :D … I can imagine it's one version away, but I still find it easier to upgrade once and for all than to deal with problems, not sure what caused them - and end up having to clean anyway do a reinstall. And if one has order in the data and some meaningful structure on the disks, even a clean installation + recovery is relatively fast... Not to mention a good feeling... ;)
I know you're right, but I realized I'm on a *NIX system (OK a *BSD system) and I've never had a problem there (I'm not just talking about OSX, but servers and their "inter-version" upgrade). I admit, every year there is a certain percentage of users who eventually have to do a clean install of OSX, in any case, it is better for me personally if I upgrade straight away and clean the PRAM, if it doesn't take up the cache and in older versions if it doesn't help, they were still repaired permissions although I noticed that the cache gets wiped straight after installation.
I have structured data, but restoring the 250GB of data will take about an hour when I have a disk connected via USB, I admit that a scenario could be done in the first round of restoring documents, basic applications, which would take a maximum of 20 minutes and then overnight let the rest go, but I would either have to script it myself or look for software that would do it for me, even if it would only be enough to correctly parameterize 2-3 rsync commands.
In summary, it's definitely partly my laziness, but also the belief that the OS should serve me and not me him, and I'm not on Windows, even though it's probably improved a lot over the years :-) And yes, I'm able to bear the consequences, so if something doesn't work for me, it's not Apple's problem, it's because I didn't do a clean install.
There is no objection to this approach, it is really mainly a matter of personal preference. Regarding upgrades between versions, perhaps just a note that certainly not all "*NIXs" (server) manage this without any problems. The need to work on multiple (laptop) computers and thus be able to easily keep the entire "tree" up-to-date on an external disk with a mirror in the cloud led me to structured data. Since the "core apps" I use are really only a few, this isn't a big deal either. So, about once every year or two, I simply clean the Mac perfectly during the reinstallation. Otherwise, I agree one hundred percent with the thesis that one should not be a slave to one's OS (I'm still in a difficult situation compared to "wokners") and therefore I would plead with Apple for a longer cycle of "total" renewal (upgrade) of macOS. I'd much rather see a more elaborate system of partial upgrades, keeping the core of the system and more frequent (minor) security patches. For building a company's image and marketing, you can certainly find much more suitable products than an operating system... ;)
I only repair *NIX systems I mean only those I manage :-) Debian/FreeBSD
EDIT: It's true that I haven't upgraded Oracle Linux yet, but I'm only using it for SAP and "ofiko support"...
with this approach i could stay with WIN :)
it's certainly better, but I haven't encountered the problem in the last few years, when I do, I'll clean it up, but why add work as a precaution?
I haven't done a clean install for four upgrades and never had a problem even now (iMac 27″ 2011)
It's been a long time since I've seen such a problem-free new software from Apple. Both iOS10 and macOS Sierra, both installed on hw from 2013 and both run like new devices. Actually, after the previous years (iOS 8 and 9 and OS X Yosemite), I didn't even expect a change. Wow, Apple has returned to the Snow Leopard era, and that's a good thing. This is how we like Apple. I'm talking less about diversity and more about quality software.
Yosemite was a bummer, which was to be expected. Few people can handle so many changes at once. ElCapitan (which I personally consider to be Yosemite ServicePack1 ;) ) was already cool from the start, although of course not without bugs. I've been testing Sierra since the first DP on a wide variety of hardware (even not quite Apple ;) ) and I can't help but agree. When it comes to the OS, Apple should pay attention to long-term stability and continuity - I don't think that launching a "new" version of macOS every year is the best way to go in the field of operating systems... ;)
Hello, yesterday I replaced the standard drive with an SSD in my MB PRO 13″ early 2011, I did a clean install (no backup download from Time Capsule) and today I hear like a dick from the couch - the system is taking up about 64 GB, while it already showed me 80GB but then mysteriously dropped back to 64… Is this normal? Alternatively, what can cause such expansion of the system? https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/7b6acaa1a4c3a8f922c51c42e76d4f6cac555780ab0a5420f8336a8290d5ae80.png
I don't know, but iOS behaves similarly. Maybe it's because of the new optimization features
Does anyone have a problem opening the Photos library, please? I have it stored on an external drive, about 250 GB, and the wheel runs and runs, but it won't open. ALT+CMD does not work to fix. Thanks thanks.
externally via USB2-3, thunderbolt? I have a second drive in my iMac with over 500GB of photos and no problems.

Hello,
i installed a new sierra system and had significant problems this morning. I'm using Synology external storage. I always share this and it worked without a problem on the el-Captain OS. Now I can share, I can see all the data and I can work with it, in the sense of copying, opening. The problem occurs when I open a file in numbers, pages or preview and want to save it to this storage. The computer starts working, an unpleasant colored wheel appears and after about 5 minutes it tells me that the file cannot be saved. We use data storage across our network to store data at my accounting firm, so we can't do without it. Anyone familiar with this, please help? The same problem is with all computers, so I believe that the age of the computer does not affect it. It seems to me that the connection is canceled after some time, or after an unsuccessful save of the file, and I have to connect again, but usually it doesn't work.
thanks for the anwers
Hello. How is the location after installation please? I struggle with this all the time thanks to the SSD :) Will I lose 5 GB of space or will the original system be deleted after installation? Or how much please I am afraid of losing passwords in Safari, problems with mails, etc. Thanks a lot.
hi i updated my mac to os sierra 10.12 and i am not running parallels 11 do i have to buy new parallels again? 12's THIS TIME? Thanks M
