The arrival of the new Macbook series in Czech stores is approaching, and many of you are surely considering whether it is worth replacing your old Macbook with a new one. At least that's what I'm thinking about. MacWorld.com has already managed to test everything and so we can see what it looks like.

In the test, it is interesting that the new Macbook is in some tests that depend mainly on CPU speed, faster than its equally fast bigger brother Macbook Pro. But the difference is rather in the order of statistical error. On the other hand, it has a very low result in Finder when unzipped, but that seems more like some kind of error in the test. In any case new low-power processors are not far behind before the previous generation and that is the main conclusion from this test.

This table is certainly interesting for occasional and demanding players. Owners of Macbook Pro models with the 8600GT don't have much reason to look for an upgrade. Performance is more or less comparable. Yes, the 9600M GT will have a bit of an edge in some games, but I'm not sure the performance upgrade would make sense. Of course, there is a test using only the 9400M or 9600M GT and not together. Everything can change when the drivers for using Geforce Boost (using both graphics at the same time) are available, but for now we can wait for some Friday!

However, the aluminum Macbook is fundamentally different. Thanks to the Nvidia 9400M graphics, we will be able to play some games on it without it becoming a slideshow. The rise against Intel's solution is absolutely legendary. In some games it is up to 6 times as many frames per second. This integrated graphics for laptops is going to be a big success and I have to applaud Nvidia for this piece.

The carbon Macbook has also been tested by a lot of people in various forums, for example the impressions of the user CodeSamurai:

FarCry 2 – 1280 x 800 – medium settings – 18 fps

Team Fortress 2 – 1280 x 800 – max settings, 2x AA, HDR, no motion blur – approx. 35 FPS in the game

Halflife 2 a Portal – 1280×800, maximum setting, 4xAA – always smooth

Oblivion – 1280 x 800 – textures medium (high captures approx. 3fps), most things at max, including grass distance and view distance, HDR, no AA

  • in mostly outdoor locations approx. 20-30 fps, rather it is in the higher range
  • Outside Evil - probably the most demanding passage, only 8 fps with this setting. If the grass is turned off, you get 35-40 fps
  • in cities expect 25-40 fps, depends on the number of people
  • indoors a perfect 35-50 fps
Are you in doubt? So you teachers should try the following video of playing Team Fortress 2 and Oblivion.
And how do you see it? Are you planning to buy a new Macbook or Macbook Pro? Or is the current model enough for you? Share your views in the comments.
