Apple has been facing a lot of criticism directed towards Apple tablets for a long time. In recent years, iPads have moved forward significantly, which mainly applies to the Pro and Air models. Unfortunately, despite this, it suffers from an imperfection of large dimensions. We are, of course, talking about their iPadOS operating systems. Although the two named models currently have drastic performance thanks to the Apple M1 (Apple Silicon) chip, which is found, among others, in the 24″ iMac, MacBook Air, 13″ MacBook Pro and Mac mini, they still cannot use it to the full.

With a bit of exaggeration, it can be said that the iPad Pro and Air can use the M1 chip at most to show off. The iPadOS system is still more of a mobile operating system, which is just converted to a larger desktop. But here comes the fatal problem. The giant from Cupertino boasts from time to time that its iPads can fully replace Macs. But this statement is miles away from the truth. Although there are several obstacles in his way, we are practically still going around in circles in this regard, as the culprit is still the OS.

iPadOS deserves an upgrade

Apple fans expected a certain revolution for the iPadOS system last year, with the introduction of iPadOS 15. As we all know now, unfortunately, nothing like that happened. Today's iPads thus lose significantly in the area of multitasking, when they can only use the Split View function to split the screen and work in two apps. But let's pour some pure wine - something like that is seriously insufficient. The users themselves agree on this, and in various discussions they spread interesting ideas about how these problems could be prevented and the entire Apple tablet division moved to a higher level. So what should be missing in the new iPadOS 16 to finally make a change?

Some fans have often debated the arrival of macOS on iPads. Something like this could theoretically have a major impact on the entire direction of Apple tablets, but on the other hand, it might not be the happiest solution. Instead, more people would prefer to see more radical changes within the already existing iPadOS system. As we mentioned above, multitasking is absolutely essential in this regard. A simple solution can be windows, where it wouldn't hurt if we could attach them to the edges of the display and thus lay out our entire work area much better. After all, this is exactly what designer Vidit Bhargava tried to portray in his rather interesting concept.

What a redesigned iPadOS system could look like (See Bhargava):

Apple needs to step up now

At the end of April 2022, the apple company published financial results for the past quarter, in which it was more or less happy with the success. Overall, the giant recorded a 9% year-on-year increase in sales, while improving in almost all individual categories. Sales of iPhones increased by 5,5% year-on-year, Macs by 14,3%. services by 17,2% and wearables by 12,2%. The only exception is iPads. For those, sales fell by 2,2%. Although at first glance this is not such a catastrophic change, it is necessary to take into account that these figures reflect certain changes. It is therefore not surprising that many Apple users blame the iPadOS operating system for this decline, which is simply insufficient and practically limits the entire tablet.

If Apple wants to avoid another slump and kickstart its tablet division into full gear, then it needs to act. Coincidentally, he now has a great opportunity. The developer conference WWDC 2022 will take place already in June 2022, during which new operating systems, including iPadOS, are traditionally presented. But it is unclear whether we will actually see the desired revolution. The mentioned more radical changes are not discussed at all and it is therefore not clear how the whole situation will develop. However, one thing is certain - almost all iPad users would welcome a change in the system.
