Apple recently updated its guidelines for placing apps on its App Store. In the rules that developers are supposed to follow, there is a new prohibition on the placement of unofficial applications that are in any way related to the coronavirus. This type of applications will now be approved by the App Store only if they come from official sources. Apple considers healthcare and government organizations to be these sources.
In recent days, some developers have complained that Apple refused to include their applications related to the topic of the coronavirus in the App Store. In response to these complaints, Apple decided to explicitly formulate the relevant regulations on Sunday afternoon. In its statement, the company emphasizes that its App Store should always be a safe and trusted place where users can download their applications. According to Apple, this commitment is especially important in light of the current COVID-19 pandemic. "Communities around the world rely on apps to be trusted sources of news," the statement said.
In it, Apple further adds that these applications should help users learn everything they need about the latest innovations in the field of healthcare or perhaps find out how they can help others. In order to really meet these expectations, Apple will only allow the placement of relevant applications in the App Store if these applications come from healthcare and government organizations, or from educational institutions. In addition, non-profit organizations in selected countries will be exempted from the obligation to pay the annual fee. Organizations can also mark their application with a special label, thanks to which applications can be prioritized in the approval process.
"that its App Store should always be a safe and trusted place"
My personal experience is that sometimes it's ridiculous how pre-shit they are. For example, applications that ESTIMATE the amount of alcohol in the blood are, according to him, "health harm" and they will no longer be allowed in the store in the last year (the older ones have remained there). It may be written there a hundred times that it is only an estimate, but modern protection of toupoons is so far that Apple is afraid that it would lose a court case at the first roadside inspection when the toupoon will argue "iPhone told me I can drive now".
It must be written on the cup that the coffee is hot, in the instructions for the microwave that cats must not be dried in it, and in the AppStore we do not allow estimating the amount of alcohol in the blood... :-)
Religious apps and various dubious diets may be there, but virus information is not…
It's a sad time we live in :-/ and unfortunately most people don't even understand what's bothering us about it anymore...
I think, or it's my opinion, that there are a lot of third-party applications that Apple should shine a light on and improve their morale a bit, that are simply feeding themselves on Apple. From my own experience: applications marked as free start collecting payments after installation, which are not mentioned in the description in the dispute. I know it can be undone, watch out for it, but this really reminds me of the practices of the infamous scumbags. If I wanted to return the payment on time, as possible, I tried to call Apple's infoline/hepline to ask about it. There they were understanding, they listened to me - yes, I digress, this is what such a phone service should look like, but they could not help me, they explained that it is a third-party application. They told me that there must be a contact for these cases and complaints on the application pages. Yes, it is, but it's just for fun with the rabbits, understandably zero response and they didn't return anything.
Or are these practices a normal part of "apple culture"?
