Silicone cover, leather cover, transparent cover - Apple's boring trio of covers for its iPhones, which has been with us for many years and only its colors change. Although the iPhone 12 came with support for MagSafe technology, it did not change the covers in any way in terms of design. That way, Apple could become more independent.

We don't want to offend Apple in any way, so it is also appropriate to mention that it also offers its leather cover for the iPhone 12. However, since it was probably not a huge sales success, it was no longer included with the iPhone 13. In principle, it can be said that for its high-end phone portfolio, it offers only one type of case with three different materials (you won't find a pair of OtterBox covers in the Apple Online Store). And isn't that a bit much?

It's surprising how Apple can sometimes break free and make a really bold design decision, at least in terms of the appearance of its hardware. We are, of course, talking about the 24" iMac and the 14 and 16" MacBook Pros. But as far as accessories are concerned, it is inexplicably very much down to earth. At the same time, that accessory can non-invasively change the perception of the entire device. At least with iPhones that still look very similar, it wouldn't hurt.

Still the same materials

Here we have a transparent cover that is made of a mixture of optically clear polycarbonate and flexible materials. The silicone cover is of course made of silicone (with a soft lining) and the leather cover is made of specially tanned leather that is soft to the touch and develops a natural patina over time.

There's nothing nice about a transparent cover, when you consider the rather distracting magnets. The silicone cover gets extremely dirty and collects dust unsightly. Leather is nice to begin with, aging doesn't matter so much as it starts to stick over time. In addition, it is unnecessarily heavy. But why doesn't Apple offer us something like hardened TPU or aramid fiber?

Aramid is a resistant material, even against scratches, so the phone will always be safe in your pocket, purse, backpack, anywhere. At the same time, it adds grip, so it holds much better. Samsung offers this case, for example, for its Z Flip3. However, this company also scores fairly well with the appearance of the cases for this type of phone. Sure, it's more of a fashion phone, but you can't deny Samsung's inventions here. This accessory just looks good.

And then there's the special antibacterial protection that really comes in handy these days. Such a cover or case is covered with an antimicrobial layer, which prevents microbial growth and contributes to protection against some bacteria. Samsung offers this protection especially with its flip cases. So there are ideas here, and where Apple should definitely be inspired. So let's hope that, for example, in the spring with the 3rd generation iPhone SE, we will see something really interesting.
