The fact that the apple company is working on its own smart glasses has been known for several long months - just like the fact that it is working on its own Arm processors. In the case of its own processors, Apple already has considerable experience, as it designs these chips for its mobile devices. However, when it comes to smart glasses, the Californian giant is no longer so clear in this area. Therefore, from time to time there is news that Apple has bought out another company or startup that develops smart glasses or headsets for augmented reality.

In this case, the Californian giant decided to buy NextVR, which combines virtual reality with sports or even music. Thanks to NextVR, users of virtual reality headsets from PlayStation, HTC, Oculus, Google and Microsoft can watch their favorite events. Specifically, NextVR has partnered with the NBA, Wimbledon, Fox Sports, WWE, and more. In addition, NextVR has more than 40 patents, some of which relate to things like upscaling when streaming video, which Apple might like.

NextVR has been in quite a bit of trouble in recent years. In 2019, it failed to raise the required funding, which forced it to lay off 40% of its employees. Although Apple has not yet confirmed the acquisition of the company, the apple company is said to already employ several employees from NextVR. In addition, these employees were told that they would have to move from Southern California to Apple's headquarters in Cupertino. Here, employees will most likely work on the development of virtual reality glasses or headsets.
