home pod mini it was only introduced in 2020 alongside the iPhone 12. It is a small smart speaker for the home, which of course can connect to the Apple HomeKit smart home and control the entire apartment or house via voice commands. In addition, it offers surprisingly high-quality sound and a number of other functions for its small size. But we won't be talking about you this time. Information has now surfaced, according to which Apple also worked on a variant with its own battery during development. In that case, the HomePod mini would not be dependent on a constant connection to the mains. However, the giant cut this version in the final. Why? And wouldn't it be better if he bet on the battery?

Method of use

First of all, it is necessary to think about how HomePod mini is actually used by the majority of users. Since it is a smart speaker managing a smart home, it is quite logical that it is in one and the same place all the time, in a given specific room. Of course, we can have several speakers throughout the home and subsequently also use them, for example, for Intercom, but this does not change the statement that we do not move much with the HomePod mini. On the other hand, it is necessary to take into account that we cannot actually use the product in any other way. As it is dependent on the connection to the electrical network, it is quite impractical to move it often in any way.

For this reason, a simple question arises. Would the HomePod mini have been more user-friendly if it offered a built-in battery and was therefore easily portable? Of course, the answer to this question is difficult to find, since we do not have the mentioned product at our disposal, which would be able to convey this experience to us - if we leave out competing pieces. Honestly, we have to admit that something like that would definitely not be harmful. The presence of a battery would significantly facilitate the use of the product, thanks to which we could, for example, have it in the bedroom most of the time and, if necessary, could move it, for example, to the living room near the TV. All this without having to deal with disconnecting cables and finding a suitable outlet in another room.

Current HomePod mini combined with battery

But what if the HomePod mini came in its current form, but at the same time offered a battery as a backup source? In that case, this speaker could work quite normally, for example, within one room, but it would be possible to disconnect the power cable from it at any time and carry it freely or take it on trips, where it would instead draw energy from the built-in battery. Of course, something similar is already being offered. Thanks to the power supply via the USB-C cable, we only need to have a power bank with a USB-C Power Delivery 18 W or more output connector at hand.

With this exact move, Apple could satisfy both parties - those who are satisfied with the current product, and those who, on the contrary, would welcome a battery. However, according to the current information, we should not look forward to much. According to Mark Gurman, who allegedly sources information directly from Apple, the Cupertino giant has no plans (for now) to develop a similar device with its own battery, which is a huge shame. It is clear that such a device would be welcomed by a relatively large group of users, as they would gain relatively greater freedom of use.
