In 2019, Apple came up with its own gaming platform, Apple Arcade, which offers Apple fans over 200 exclusive titles. Of course, the service works on a subscription basis and it is necessary to pay 139 crowns per month to activate it, in any case, it can be shared with the family as part of family sharing. Around the introduction and launch itself, the Apple Arcade platform enjoyed extensive attention, as everyone was interested in how the service would work in practice and what it would offer.

From the beginning, Apple celebrated success. He managed to bring a simple way to play, which is also based on exclusive game titles without any ads or microtransactions. But interdependence across the entire apple system is also important. Since the game data is saved and synchronized via iCloud, it is possible to play at one moment, for example, on an iPhone, then switch to a Mac and continue there. On the other hand, it is also possible to play offline, or without an Internet connection. But Apple Arcade's popularity quickly declined. The service does not offer any proper games, the so-called AAA titles are completely absent, and in general we can only find indie games and various arcades here. But that doesn't mean the whole service is bad.

Is Apple Arcade Dying?

To most Apple fans who are interested in technology and possibly have an overview of the video game industry, Apple Arcade may seem like a completely useless platform that basically has nothing to offer. One could agree with this statement in certain respects. For the mentioned amount, we only get mobile games, with which (in the vast majority of cases) we will not have as much fun as, for example, games of the current generation. But as we mentioned above, it doesn't have to mean anything yet. Since a relatively large group of apple lovers share a similar opinion about the service, it is not surprising that Apple Arcade has become the subject of discussion on discussion forums. And this is where the biggest strength of the platform was revealed.

Apple Arcade cannot be praised enough by parents with smaller children. For them, the service plays a relatively important role, as they can offer children a relatively huge library of various games, for which they have relatively important certainties. The games in Apple Arcade can be described as harmless and safe. Add to that the absence of any ads and microtransactions, and we get the perfect combination for small players.

When will the turning point come?

The question is also whether we will ever see a more noticeable evolution of the Apple Arcade platform. The video game industry has grown to gigantic proportions over the past few years, and it's quite strange that the Cupertino giant hasn't gotten involved yet. Of course, this also has its reasons. Apple does not have any proper product in its portfolio that would be able to launch today's AAA titles. If we add to this the ignoring of the macOS operating system by the developers themselves, we get the picture quite quickly.

But this does not mean that Apple is not interested in entering the video game market. At the end of May this year, quite interesting information surfaced that the giant was even negotiating the purchase of EA (Electronic Arts), which is behind legendary series such as FIFA, NHL, Battlefield, Need for Speed and a number of other games. As already mentioned, if Apple fans will ever actually see gaming, they are (for now) more or less in the stars.
