In recent years, Apple has invested a lot of money in its services, the introduction of which has attracted an avalanche of attention. These are, of course,  TV+ and Apple Arcade. They joined iCloud and Apple Music in 2019, when the giant promised a lot of fun from them. It is therefore not surprising that they were able to bring down a literal avalanche of attention and enthusiasm. Unfortunately, not all that glitters is gold. In the end, services are rather overlooked. Although it is good to mention that the  TV+ platform is more or less waking up and offering more and more really quality content. But what about Apple Arcade?

The Apple Arcade gaming service is intended to provide Apple users with hours of entertainment in the form of mobile games. The platform mainly benefits from more than 200 exclusive titles and the ability to play on practically all Apple devices of the user. Of course, in such a case, his progress is also saved by the game. For example, if we were playing on the train on the phone and immediately opened the game at home on Apple TV/Mac, we can continue exactly where we left off. On the other hand, there is a huge problem, which is why so many people are not interested in the service.

Who is Apple Arcade targeting?

But first we have to realize who the Cupertino giant is actually targeting with the Apple Arcade service. If you are among the so-called hardcore gamers and can easily lose yourself in a console or gaming computer for several hours, then it is clear that you will not have much fun with Apple Arcade. The apple company, on the other hand, targets undemanding players, children and entire families. It offers the aforementioned exclusive titles for 139 crowns per month. And the dog is buried in them.

The games look pretty good at first glance, with words of praise pouring in for their gameplay and other elements. The problem, however, is that on the platform we mainly find adventure games and indie games, which the real gamer is understandably not interested in, or only minimally interested in. In short, the service lacks quality games of the mainstream type. Personally, I would welcome an action shooter in the form of Call of Duty: Mobile or a good first-person story game in the style of Thief or Dishonored. Of those mainstream games, only NBA 2K22 Arcade Edition is available. Of course, it is necessary to take into account that these titles are developed primarily for playing on the iPhone, because of which they may not look completely glamorous. But when we think about it, it's quite a paradox. Year after year, Apple brags to us about how it has managed to increase the performance of (not only) Apple phones, which quite frankly today have timeless chip equipment. The world of Mac computers also experienced a significant shift forward, specifically with the arrival of Apple Silicon chips. So why aren't better looking games available even with one?

Opening the platform

The current problems that have accompanied Apple Arcade practically since its inception could theoretically reverse the opening of the platform. If the giant from Cupertino made its service available, for example, on Android and Windows, it could get other interesting titles under its wings, which could already pull better. Although this seems like a possible solution, it is necessary to look at the whole situation from a broader point of view. In that case, another, probably even bigger obstacle would appear. The games themselves would have to be prepared not only for apple systems, but also for others, which would add additional work to the developers. Likewise, there could also be gameplay issues due to poor optimization.

The popularity of the service as such could be boosted by the influx of other, significantly higher quality games that would target traditional players. As for the opening of Apple Arcade and its expansion to other platforms, Apple has a rather interesting opportunity in this direction as well. She definitely has the resources to improve and now it's up to her what steps she takes next. How do you view the service? Are you satisfied with Apple Arcade?
