Apple has officially ended development of AirPower. The wireless charger from the workshops of the Californian company will not reach the market. Reality today for the magazine TechCrunch announced Apple's senior vice president of hardware engineering.
“After much effort, we concluded that AirPower did not meet our high standards and were forced to end the project. We apologize to all customers who were looking forward to the mat. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and we are always striving to move forward in wireless technology.”
Apple presented its AirPower together with iPhone X and iPhone 8 a year and a half ago, specifically at the September conference in 2017. At that time, it promised that the pad would go on sale during 2018. However, in the end, it did not meet the declared deadline.
Many indicated the opposite
AirPower was widely expected to go on sale later this year. Many indications from verified sources even indicated that Apple started the production of the charger at the beginning of the year, and that it plans to put it on sale at the turn of March and February.
In iOS 12.2 even discovered several codes, which described how the pad would work. With the recent introduction of the second generation of AirPods, then on the company's official website a new photo has appeared, where AirPower was pictured alongside the iPhone XS and the latest AirPods.
Some time ago, Apple was granted a patent for AirPower. A few days ago, the company even received the necessary trademark. So it was more or less clear that the mat with the bitten apple logo was heading to the counters of retailers. That is why today's announcement about its termination is quite unexpected.
AirPower was supposed to be unique and revolutionary, but Apple's vision to bring such a sophisticated wireless charging pad to market ultimately failed. The engineers reportedly faced several problems during production, the biggest of which was related to enormous overheating, not only of the pads themselves, but also of the charging devices.
who cares about a pad anyway :) they would rather improve the moronic Siri.
for a fool everyone is stupid
Honestly, I don't care at all, I'm more bothered by the ridiculous basic configuration of macs.
I'm not sorry. I'm sorry that Apple introduces something that it hasn't been asked about. That's the biggest loser
They could have used it as one more thing a few days ago. It would finally be a real innovation and a wow effect.
No, by now it wouldn't be an innovation and no wow effect. Today, such a mat does not excite anyone.
I meant cancellation.
Yeah, I realized that later. ? ??
This mess has been going on for almost 8 years...

Then it's just copying the competition. Well, competition. Today, Apple is just looking helplessly at the smoke and the cinnamon. That's the reality.
what high standards are they talking about?…. :) do you mean macbook keyboards, imac configurations, or friendly RAM prices? :)
? ? ?
It accentuates my impression of the Keynote… Damn AirPower, worse, apart from marketing, Apple is already dying. Which is sad for the richest company in the world. And the saddest thing is that it doesn't shock me anymore, or really even annoys me, because it seems normal to me for the past x number of years.
Even the Americans had to respond to that Keynote... I don't understand why it was so sterile and without an idea.
Czech Siri, proper innovations are missing and I think that the competition is far better than it used to be. See https://www.bohatytata.cz/index.php/2019/03/13/zadny-strom-neroste-do-nebe-ani-apple/
Those who wanted it bought it in vain...I'm starting to feel that Apple is starting the five swan song,,
