I was born at a time when all my peers, including me, were still playing games on the first PlayStation or GameBoy consoles. Most of all, we liked classic shooters like Contra, Doom or Quake. This week, thanks to the App of the Week, I went back to those years for a while. Monster Dash is a purebred shooter where your main task is to survive as long as possible.

It is the work of the well-known developer studio Halfbrick. Specifically, it is already the third installment of this game series with the same protagonist. As in all the previous tasks, you just have to shoot at everything that moves a little and jump between obstacles and chasms.

The controls are absolutely simple and you can get by with two thumbs – one for jumping, the other for shooting. The game doesn't offer more options either. In each round you have to shoot as many enemies and various creatures as possible while saving your precious life. As always, the further you go, the better. Literally every meter counts. To do this, you have to collect gold coins, which you can then use to improve your weapon arsenal or directly increase the level of the main character.

In addition to all this, you will alternate between different game environments. So, for example, you start in the winter, jump on the Great Wall of China, and so on. Until then, interesting bonuses and improvements await you, which you can meet along the way. For example, a motorcycle is very useful, as it significantly speeds up movement and facilitates the elimination of enemies. Don't expect anything more from Monster Dash. The more you play, the better you will surely become. It just takes a little practice and practice.

From the point of view of design and game environment, it is more of a retro game that does not stand out in any way. However, after playing for a longer period of time, I began to experience a boring stereotype, which rather forced me to turn off the game. On the other hand, as a quickie while traveling or on a break between classes, great fun. The game is compatible with all iOS devices and you can download it for free from the App Store. The ubiquitous in-app purchases are a matter of course.
