Every one of us dreams at night, and there are definitely people who dream about flying. Fantastic worlds, mythical monsters, endless possibilities and you just fly freely in space. If you've never experienced it before or just don't remember it, you can at least try it out in the new 8bit Doves game. It is free for this week as the app of the week.
The game relies on a very simple retro concept, which you surely know from the successful game Flappy Bird or from various early consoles or Gameboys. 8bit Doves is also controlled completely identically to Flappy Bird, you use your thumbs to control the flight direction of the main character. He is sleeping in his bed at the start of each round and your task is to guide him through the given dream world unscathed.
At first glance it may seem like a very simple task, but I can honestly say that there are laps that I repeated countless times before I managed to fly through without any caroms. Different obstacles, loops, moving objects and many other pitfalls await you in each level. You have to practice every round perfectly, with nerves and stress working at full speed.
8bit Doves offers several game worlds and quite a decent amount of wheels. The game is very minimalist and in terms of design it is a great retro piece. Likewise, 8bit Doves also has a fairly decent potential for addiction, so you won't leave the device until you've managed to finish the given round. In each level you also have to collect small feathered birds that accompany you on your way.
You can download the game for free on the App Store, and 8bit Doves is compatible with all iOS devices. The present in-app purchases are handled outside of the main game, so they won't bother you that much.
