Apple's wireless AirPods are generally considered to be more of a hassle-free device. Pairing them with Apple products is instant and easy, and their newer generation offers some very enticing features indeed. Their collaboration and integration into the entire Apple ecosystem is also great. But nothing is 100%, and sometimes it can happen that problems occur even with such a great product as AirPods.

For example, you might find that one of your AirPods isn't working as it should, the headphones aren't working with your iPhone, and the indicator LED on the back of the case is flashing green. Experienced users already have proven tricks to deal with problems of this type. But if you are a beginner or a new owner of AirPods, this situation may surprise you. Fortunately, in the vast majority of cases, it is nothing that would require the intervention of a specialist. So let's now take a look together at what to do when the LED on the back of your AirPods case is flashing green.

Quick tips

First, you can try one of these quick, tried-and-true steps, which are often a one-size-fits-all solution to a variety of AirPods issues.

  • Return both AirPods to their case and charge them for at least 15 minutes.
  • On your device, make sure Bluetooth is turned on and your AirPods are connected.
  • Unplug the AirPods and hold the button on the back of the case to reset them.
  • Charge AirPods and devices next to each other when Wi-Fi is on.
  • Completely discharge and then fully charge the headphones.

The cause of the problems

In many cases, insufficient charging is the cause of a whole range of problems with AirPods. Sometimes it can also be dirt in the case or on the headphones, which is why it is also in place thorough and careful cleaning. Most users whose left or right AirPods stop being recognized will also see a flashing green light on the AirPods case. Apple doesn't mention what it means when describing the different lights on the AirPods, but it's certainly not the default state.

The first generation AirPods case has a status light inside the lid. The second generation case and Airpods Pro case has a diode on the front of the case. Under normal circumstances, the status light indicates whether the AirPods or case are charged, charging, or ready to pair, while a flashing green light may indicate a problem. For many users, the green light stops flashing when they remove the faulty AirPod from the case. This means that the AirPods may not be charging properly.

If you want to get rid of the green flashing LED on your AirPods case, you can try heading to Settings -> Bluetooth, and tap the ⓘ to the right of your AirPods' name. Choose Ignore -> Ignore device and then try to pair the AirPods again. Have you tried unpairing and re-pairing your AirPods, or resetting them, but the light does not flash orange? Try the following steps.

  • On iPhone, run Settings -> General -> Transfer or Reset iPhone. Make sure you have all your passwords for Wifi and other access points noted down.
  • Choose Reset -> Reset network settings.
  • Once the network settings are restored, follow the instructions above to unpair the AirPods from the iPhone and try to connect them again.

All the steps we have described in this article should help you - or at least one of them. If none of the procedures work, try again to really check the port of the charging case and the inside of the case for any debris - even an inconspicuous piece of lint from your clothing stuck inside the case can often cause a lot of problems. The last step is, of course, a visit to an authorized service center.
