This week, the first reviews of the latest 2nd generation HomePod began to appear on the Internet. We will also address this topic in our summary of past events. In addition to the first reviews of the new HomePod, there will be talk, for example, about the use of the Apple Watch in professional sports or how AirTag did a better job than airlines when finding a lost wallet on an airplane.

First review of the 2nd generation HomePod

During the past week, the first reviews of the new 2nd generation HomePod appeared on the Internet. The first reviewers also praised the sound of the new "big" HomePod, for example. In a review for Engadget magazine, Billy Steele noted that the new model has fewer tweeters than the first generation, which may not be to everyone's liking. Still, the HomePod sounds good, according to Steele, especially compared to some other smart speakers. TechCrunch's Brian Heater pointed out a minor design change where the shape of the speaker narrows slightly at the ends. Understandably, none of the reviews forgot to mention the touch screen with the backlit surface on the top of the HomePod. Reviewers often praised the increase in this touch surface, as well as the new color, recycled material, temperature and humidity sensor or detachable cable.

Apple Watch for professional surfers

While Apple's smartwatch offers a number of great features for a variety of physical activities, many people who take sports a little more seriously still prefer some competing brands. However, The Verge magazine reported this week that the World Surfing League (WSL - World Surf League) has chosen the Apple Watch - specifically the Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra - as an official accessory for competitors. The smart apple watch will provide surfers with real-time information on results, waves and time remaining until the end of the race. This is the first time that the Apple Watch will be the official wearable device in professional sports. Before each race, each athlete will receive a Series 8 and Ultra watch pre-installed with the specially created WSL Surfer app. The app will link to the league's scoring system in real time and provide surfers with up-to-date information. What is interesting about the official adoption of the Apple Watch in the WSL is that its use in this case is not related to performance - it is a way of transmitting information to athletes in real time, which uses the mobile functions of the Apple Watch.

AirTag in a leading role in the search for a lost wallet

AirTag locator pendants have already helped many people in more or less bizarre cases of finding lost things, luggage, but even pets. Recently, thanks to AirTag, it was possible to track down a wallet that a passenger named John Lewis forgot on an American Airlines plane - but it is not yet possible to speak of a successful find. Although the airline says it hasn't found the wallet, Lewis has seen his wallet travel through 35 different cities thanks to AirTag. John Lewis said on his Twitter account that he had left his wallet on the plane after he was delayed for a connecting flight after his original flight was delayed by an hour.

Finding lost items in situations like this isn't exactly easy, but Lewis put an AirTag locator in his wallet. As expected, Lewis could see exactly where his wallet was in the Find It app, but American Airlines told him it couldn't find it after cleaning the plane. The company insisted on this claim even after Lewis provided it with location information. At the time of writing, Lewis has yet to say whether the wallet has been successfully returned to him.
