Today, after several months of testing, Microsoft released the first stable version of the new Edge browser, which is now built on the Google Chromium platform. The browser is available as a free download for both Mac and Windows. Surprisingly, it is also available for Windows 7, which Microsoft has officially ended support for today.

With the release of the new Edge browser, Microsoft promises greater compatibility with websites and better performance for users. With the browser running on the Chromium core, Microsoft also promises less fragmentation for programmers. The Mac version has been adapted to the operating system and the browser provides the Microsoft Addons Store. However, it is also compatible with add-ons in other stores for the Chromium platform, including the Chrome Web Store.

By default, the browser has active tracking prevention, built-in search using Bing and others, offers various customization options, as well as Internet Explorer mode, thanks to which you can also visit websites designed for the old Microsoft browser. The icon is also new. Microsoft plans to update its new browser regularly. The next major update is promised for February/February.

You can download the Microsoft Edge browser for free as a pro Mac here, so for iOS on the App Store.
