As most fans of the iPhone and other iOS devices know, the highly anticipated jailbreak was scheduled to be released on the magical date of October 10.10.2010, 0. And that from the Chronic Dev Team, specifically it was a GreenPoisXNUMXn jailbreak. However, in reality it was a little different.
But the fact is that on this day the GreenPois0n jailbreak, which Apple was very worried about, was supposed to be released. This jailbreak was supposed to take advantage of security holes that can only be removed by changing the hardware, this hole concerns the used A4 processors found in the new iPhone 4. Therefore, in order for Apple to prevent this jailbreak, the processor would have to be replaced. But GreenPo1son hasn't actually come out yet. Instead, a day before GreenPois0n was planned, the Limera1n jailbreak by hacker Geohot saw the light of day, which was certainly a surprise for all jailbreak fans.
Geohot is a well-known hacker who was speculated to be dead. His comeback was really successful, he developed a jailbreak that can be used on most iOS devices, namely iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPod touch 3rd generation and 4th generation. You can use Limera1n if you have iOS 4.0-4.1 on your device, and it is untethered, which means that when you turn off your device, your jailbreak remains and is not deleted. He certainly deserves at least a lot of admiration for his work, but not for the way he behaved.
You must be wondering like me why Limera0n was released when GreenPois1n was supposed to be released. This question was certainly asked by a large number of users. However, the answer to it is not yet known. In my opinion, who is the most angry with Geohot is definitely the Chronic Dev Team, which has been preparing the GreenPois0n jailbreak for a very long time, and Geohot released its jailbreak without any news or notice. And so he prepared a perfect surprise for the Dev Team.
As a result, the work of the Chronic Dev Team has so far been in vain. Of course, they will not issue their GreenPois0n and will wait. If they were to release it, it would mean the possible patching of two different security holes by Apple. So GreenPois0n will probably come out after the next iOS update, which, as is Apple's custom, will prevent the use of L1merain.
And how to jailbreak your device using Geohot's jailbreak? The procedure is very simple, just follow the instructions below. However, Limera1n is only for windows operating system so far, so Mac users will have to wait a little longer or suffer a few minutes on a computer with this operating system.
We will need:
– Computer with windows,
– iOS devices,
– downloaded Limera1n jailbreak.
1. Download Limera1nu
Enter the address in your web browser to download www.limera1n.com and click on the "download for windows" link at the bottom of the stand. (Direct download link here: http://limera1n.com/limera1n.exe). Save the file to your desktop.
2. Startup
Run the downloaded file that you saved to your desktop.
3. Connecting the iOS device
Connect your iOS device to your computer.
4. Make it ra1n
When running the limera1n.exe file you were shown a "make it ra1n" button, click on it.
5. DFU mode
You will also be informed that the iPhone is entering the so-called "recovery mode".
However, to jailbreak, you need to put the iPhone in DFU mode. Therefore, you will be prompted to hold the sleep and desktop buttons (power+home button) at the same time.
After that, Limera1n will prompt you again to release the sleep button (power button).
Next, you will be informed again about DFU mode.
6. Jailbreak done
Limera1n will show "done" and you are jailbroken. Limera1n icon appeared on your device desktop, open it.
7. Limera1n
After launching the app, select install cydia if you want to. And you can also choose "uninstall limera1n". Once Cydie is installed, reboot your device.
8. completely done
After the device boots up, you can start installing the necessary applications from Cydia and customize your iPhone to your liking.
I hope you found the guide helpful. If you have any problems, please let us know in the comments. Likewise, if you'd like to let us know what you think about the whole iPhone 4 jailbreak thing.
Updated:
The Chronic Dev Team strikes back. The aforementioned Greenpois0n jailbreak was released by the Chronic Dev Team. They used the same exploit as Geohot for the jailbreak and kept their exclusive Shatter exploit in reserve for future use. To download Greenpois0nu, open the link: www.greenpois0n.com, where only the Windows version is also available.
Great, just when I would rather use JB on 4.1 for iPhone 3G. I really don't want to jailbreak my new four and I wanted to use the three as a test device for applications before I buy them... Who knows if any JB will still work for my situation when GreenPo1son uses holes in A4, which is not in IP3G...
Tried it yesterday on my IP 3GS and it works without any problems. you guys are kidding
So I tried it in Parallels and in bootcamp, but I always get the text "waiting for device" on the button and nothing more... :/
Excellent work, I was a bit scared as a new iphone user, but everything works great :)
Terribly confused article… greenpois0n is way out…
http://www.greenpois0n.com/
:)
Works absolutely flawless on my IP4, good job.
I tried both limera1n and greenpois0n but neither works, I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.1. At GP it says Jailbreak failed. With limera it says that everything was ok, but the Freeze icon does not appear on the device's desktop:-(
Martin, try a clean restore first and then repeat the action from another USB...
Greenpois0n came out…
Learn to copy, it's not GreenPo1son but GreenPois0n, and as it's already been mentioned several times, it's already out there.
Thanks, fixed. He was not out at the time of writing. In addition, I read the decision of the dev team, where it was that they will not release it. So this step is quite incomprehensible.
Yesterday, I read again from the chronicler that it is a GH problem, that they will go to dal and release GP... I didn't expect it so soon. I was more or less alerted to it by readers here in the discussion :)
Although GreenPois0n sent it, it uses the same exploit as the one from Geohot, so their original one remained in reserve (it's the one for A4 chips)
According to the Chronic-dev team, pry GP also works on the 3GS
however, it is written like this... they replaced the original (on A4 chips) exploit with the one from Geohot and thus the original one (on A4) remained in reserve
Geohotuv works on 3GS normlane - it's written on it
I do not recommend doing JB in Parallels. I also have a Mac and I jailbroken it just fine after booting into Windows 7. I didn't like it at first... The jailbreak went fine, but no new icons appeared on my iPhone. So I installed itunes and then it worked. I have an iPhone 4/4.1
Sure, because I need the iPhone driver for Windows, which is installed together with iTunes. With the help of bootcamp just fine with iPhone4 iOS 4.1
How is security after jailbreak? I read that someone received a bill for 15000 CZK from the operator after some time that he wanted to jailbreak? Someone called from his number to a paid line, does it work or is it just a joke? Is jailbreak safe? I don't have to anything to worry about? thanks a lot for the advice
You more or less open your phone to be able to install anything, i.e. if someone puts such an application in Cydia/Rock, which they name freely and give it a description that it should be able to provide better multitasking, it is possible in my opinion... but one thing applies, be careful about what you install.
I don't think that you should write articles like this on applecart. People who want applications should contact the developers and buy them. And by the way, many good apps and games can be obtained for free, for example, on iappworld.net or similar sites. I don't understand why they 'teach people to steal' on such a serious website.
Well, like this, I use JB, but I buy all the applications. I use JB because it allows me to customize my iPhone better :)
So I don't know where in the article there is a single reference to "how we teach people to steal apps". I am fundamentally against stealing apps and I don't have a single illegal app on my iPhone (out of a total of about 300 apps). So that's a bit off. Jailbreak isn't just about stealing apps, that's a very limited view and I'm tired of how most people think. With JB, you get the ability to customize your phone as you like or explore it more, etc. That's why we write about jailbreaking and don't teach users to steal, which is NOT anywhere in the article. In addition, Cydia has several excellent applications that can also be purchased and will take your phone to a completely different level of use.
I'm not talking about stealing apps, I'll pay for them, just like I pay for apps from the appstore, but I'd like to buy intelliscreen, for example, and I don't know if it's safe to open it with a jailbreak? I don't want to lose a lot of money because of one app and opening the system. thanks
That's right, I myself made a game that, right after it was published in the AppStore, appeared in Installous in about 2 hours, and it robs me of money every day... But does that mean that I'm stealing, if I know how it will turn out? No. I'm buying. Jailbreak is a necessity for me, because I need iBlacklist and MyWii, I simply cannot function without these two apps, so even if I don't like it, I always have to give JB. Of course, another favorite is, for example, the Safari download plugin, YourTube, and so on, there are many reasons to have JB, and it's definitely not Installous, at least for me. In addition, I know a couple of people (friends) who, when installing "stolen" games from the installer, the installation process was interrupted, apple popped up and that's it... all they had to do was restore and some of them didn't even have a backup thanks to the fact that they didn't use iTunes. That's a shame, I'd say... But if I may ask, don't steal the games or the last app!!!! :-D It's really quite hard to create it and it's quite freezing when 1/3 maybe 1/2 of it goes for nothing.
I agree with this, I also jailbreak for useful apps from Cydia and not for stealing games. Thumbs up.
Amen brother…
Otherwise, as for downloading an application from Safari, Air Sharing can do it :) although it's another app and it costs money, but it can ;)
Hello, after completing the jailbreak on the iPod touch 2G, the Limera1n icon does not appear on the iPod. Does anyone know why?
because redsn2w is used to jailbreak Iphodtouch 4.1G OS 0
http://www.redmondpie.com/jailbreak-ios-4.1-with-redsn0w-0.9.6-how-to-guide/
You are confusing the iPhone Dev Team with the Chronic Dev Team. It can be a very confusing text for readers who are not too familiar with this scene!
unfortunately GreenPois0n doesn't smoke on my 3GS limera1n just fine... so I don't know if the comrades from the dev team didn't fix it...
Same problems on iPad 3G 64GB. The PressReader account does not remember the client for purchases, it messed up my calendar with MobileMe, and the cloned SIM card with multiple numbers doesn't work correctly either - rather, the SimEmu application doesn't work at all. Waste of time. The icing on the cake is that I can't run iOS4.2beta3, which was released today on the SDK, even though the device is registered as a developer (beta 1 and beta 2 worked). Before JB, the device was downgraded to 3.2.1, which can always be easily done with SDK registrations...
Everything seems to be fine with me, I uploaded to 4.1 cleanly, I used limera and everything works as it should, only some "tools" from Cydia are not yet updated for 4.1 (e.g. FolderEnhancer).
I have a 3GS and came from 4.0.1. I jailbroken through Greenpois0n, everything went well, it even has instructions on how to get the iphone into dfu with a seconds counter. After finishing, I tapped on the newly created Loader icon and installed Cydia. Except it didn't work even after restarting the iPhone. Now I'm going to restore again and try it through Limera1n.
I forgot, after installing cydia it told me that I have little space - of course, I have enough free space...
Hi, does anyone have experience with the iPod Touch? it's my first apple device :) so I wouldn't like to do it the first time :)
I jailbroken everything according to the instructions and after restarting the iPhone got stuck when turning on that icon and nothing else happens :( you don't know what to do with it?
Hello, I have a request, I tried the jailbreak, everything went fine, but the iPhone has no signal, does anyone know what to do with it, please?
Hello. I did it on iP 4 iOs 4.1 with the help of limera1n and everything went well. But after restarting the device, no new application appeared on the phone, namely limera1n, through which I would install Cydia. So is JB done? Should I do it again? Or try grenpois0n? Or restore first and then JB?
Hello,
I want to ask which JB would you recommend for IPAD ios 4.2? Thanks
hello, how long will it be in that dfu mode?
and is it also on iphone 3g?
Well, I pressed the hold home button and the power button and it said that I should repeat it and over and over, what's up with that?
