At the end of May, new European legislation will come into effect that will require companies to completely overhaul their access to personal information about their users. This change will affect essentially all companies that work with personal information. To a large extent, they will also be reflected in various social networks. Facebook has already responded to this change with a procedure that makes it possible to download a file with all the information that this social network has about you. Instagram is about to introduce something very similar.

Once available to the public, the new tool will allow users to download all the content they've ever uploaded to Instagram. These are primarily all photos, but also videos and messages. In essence, it is the same tool that Facebook has (under which Instagram belongs). In this case, it is just modified for the needs of this particular social network.

For many users, this is a welcome change, as it will be the very first option to download some data from Instagram. For example, downloading images from Instagram was not very easy before, but these problems disappear with the new tool. The company has not yet published a complete list of what will be available to download from their database, or even the resolution and quality of the downloaded photos. However, further details should emerge "very soon". The EU regulation on the protection of personal data will enter into force on 25/5/2018.
