On the one hand, Apple is trying to promote 3D Touch more and more in iPhones, with new options in iOS, but on the other hand, the first betas of iOS 11 brought one unpleasant news: the removal of the function of quickly switching between applications via 3D Touch.
When Apple first introduced 3D Touch with the iPhone 2015S in 6, the news was met with mixed reactions. Some users quickly got used to pressing the display harder and the resulting action different from a classic tap, while others still don't even know that such a thing exists.
In any case, Apple is expanding the possibilities for 3D Touch together with third-party developers, and iOS 11 is another proof that the Apple company wants to bet more and more on this method of control for iPhones. The new Control Center is proof of that. In this regard, another move in iOS 11, which is the removal of quick switching between applications using a stronger press from the left edge of the display, appears to be completely incomprehensible.
Apple engineering has confirmed that 3D Touch multitasking was intentionally removed in iOS 11. I am livid. pic.twitter.com/kiCcLq9XMB

It must be admitted that those who did not learn about this 3D Touch function in some way, probably did not come up with it themselves - it is not that intuitive. However, for those who got used to it, its removal in iOS 11 is bad news. And unfortunately, this is a deliberate removal of the function, as confirmed in the report by Apple engineers, and not a possible bug in the test versions, as was speculated.
This is surprising mainly because, at least from today's point of view, removing one of the 3D Touch functionalities does not make sense. It may not have been really used by that many users, but when Apple introduced it directly at the 2015 keynote as one of the main strengths of 3D Touch and Craig Federighi commented on it as "totally epic" (see video below in a time of 1:36:48), the current move is simply surprising.

Benjamin Mayo on 9to5Mac he speculates, that the feature "may somehow mess with the gestures of the upcoming bezel-less iPhone 8, though it's hard to imagine how." Anyway, it now looks like iOS 11 will once again require you to exclusively double-press the Home button on your iPhone to switch between apps and invoke multitasking.
Well this is very bad news. I don't even remember the last time I switched apps with a doubleclick on the 6S.
One of the few 3D touch features that made sense and they are removing it. But otherwise, in general, 3D touch is "nothing", or the implementation is faulty, confusing, unclear. It's true that in 11beta they improved some things with 3D touch (it seems I can finally swipe hard and short and the system responds right away, not like in 10 when I swiped hard and short and the system ignored it because I didn't push hard enough ), but it is still problematic.
on the other hand, given the devices it is to be used on and how many of them do not support 3d touch, it seems quite logical to me
Well, I personally don't think that's logical, because they have different devices and not all of them have all the functions and are controlled the same way, so even there unification is not possible and it should be up to us if we use it or not. In this case, what was wrong with having it there and not using it? Nothing. So let's say they canceled it because of the iPhone 8/7s, but the 7, 6s, maybe SE will still be sold. Then we also have tablets. But that's for another discussion :-))
Exactly, for me it was the most used 3D Touch function and otherwise I didn't even switch apps. Here on the beta, I kept hoping that it was just a bug, and now I'm disappointed. Out of habit, I press the side of the display and nothing?
I really miss that feature on the beta already. I'm really sorry that they decided to give it away?
From my point of view, it's a completely useless function that doesn't work perfectly anyway.
In my opinion, this is a completely non-ergonomic gesture, where we have to reach exactly into one of the corners and even that pressure needs to be specific, otherwise it does not work perfectly. Not to mention the time response, which is much longer than with a double click. Apple probably knows why it removes it. It is probably only used by a small % of users (if it is calculable to % and not by chance to ‰)
I wonder what some of you will do with the 3D touch. Below, one is looking for some lags - nonsense, one must not have wooden fingers. You're hitting the corner again, but it's getting stuck on the edge. In addition, the speed is completely comparable to the double-crank, but again, I don't have wooden fingers, and above all, I just need to hit it and, as it were, throw it off the edge, and I'm even faster than with the double-crank.
