It's only been a few days since we learned the official information that the HomePod will not make it to Christmas this year. This information does not have to bother us in the Czech Republic, given the fact that the Czech Republic is not in the first wave of countries where the finished HomePod will look. From December 2017, the launch was moved to sometime in "early 2018". There was no more specific official statement from Apple. So, sometime during this period, the smart speaker will arrive in the US, UK and Australia market. And it will happen after more than five years of development. This information came from the foreign server Bloomberg, according to which Apple has been working on an intelligent speaker since 2012.

In 2012, it was a year since Apple introduced the intelligent assistant Siri. In the company, they most likely understood very quickly what potential it could offer in future products. According to Bloomberg, the genesis of the entire project was very uncertain. The development of the smart speaker (which was not called Home Pod at the time) was interrupted several times, only to be restarted afterwards - understandably from scratch.

When Amazon released the first version of its Echo speaker, Apple engineers reportedly bought it, took it apart and began researching how it was actually made and how it worked. They found it to be an interesting idea, even though Amazon's execution didn't quite match what they wanted to achieve. Especially in relation to the quality of sound production. So they decided to try to do it their own way.

Originally, it was supposed to be just a kind of side project in which Apple was supposed to compete with companies such as JBL, H/K or Bose, which operate in the segment of wireless speakers. However, after two years of development, the situation changed, HomePod was given its own internal designation, and its importance reached such a level that its development was moved directly to the heart of Apple's development center.

A lot has changed since the original prototype. Originally, the HomePod was supposed to be roughly a meter tall, and its entire body was supposed to be covered in fabric. Another prototype, on the other hand, looked like a painting, it had a rectangular shape with front speakers and a screen. There was also thought that it would be a product sold under the Beats brand. We all already know how it turned out with the design, because Apple introduced the HomePod a few months ago. The company plans to sell around four million units over the next year. We'll see if she succeeds.
