Apple is finally responding to the issues reported by iPhone 4 users and is issuing an official press statement in which they try to explain why someone's phone drops 4 or 5 bars when holding the iPhone 4 in a certain way.
In its letter, Apple writes that it is surprised by the problems of users and immediately began to determine the cause of the problems. At the beginning he emphasizes that almost the signal will drop for every cell phone by 1 or more dashes if you hold it a certain way. This is true both for the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, as well as, for example, for Android phones, Nokia, Blackberry and the like.
But the problem was that some users reported a drop of 4 or 5 bars if they held the phone firmly while covering the lower left corner of the iPhone 4. This is definitely a bigger drop than normal, according to Apple. Apple representatives then read a lot of reviews and emails from users who reported that iPhone 4 reception is much better than the iPhone 3GS. So what caused it?
After testing, Apple discovered that the formula they used to calculate the number of lines in a signal was completely wrong. In many cases, the iPhone showed 2 lines more than the real signal in the area. Users who reported a drop of 3 or more bars were mostly from very weak signal area. But they couldn't know that, because the iPhone 4 showed them 4 or 5 lines of signal. That tall but the signal was not true.
So Apple will start using the formula recommended by the operator AT&T in the iPhone 4. According to this formula, it will now start calculating the signal strength. The actual signal strength will still be the same, but the iPhone will start displaying the signal strength much more accurately. For a better user experience, Apple will increase the weak signal icons so that they don't think they have no signal at all when the signal is "only" weak.
By the same "error" even the very original iPhone suffers. So the new iOS 4.0.1 will be released soon, which will fix this bug in iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS as well. At the end of the letter, Apple emphasizes that the iPhone 4 is the device with the best wireless performance they have produced to date. It also warns iPhone 4 owners that they can return it to an Apple Store within 30 days and get their money back.
This is more of a cosmetic error correction. This explains why people in an area with a strong signal do not have problems with bars dropping to a minimum or dropping calls. As written in our review (and the review on iDnes), reviewers never had a problem with a weak signal. And likewise, some reviewers from abroad add that where they used to have dropped calls, they can make calls with the new iPhone 4 without any problems.
Well hooray! I was beginning to doubt Apple. I don't like the way they have been dealing with it for a long time, I hope it will turn out well in the end and for this time I am happy for our great coverage :)
I'm also here for this statement and solution, I'm not tired of constantly cursing and complaining about Apple and it will be quiet in a while :).
So I'm curious what the critics of iPhone 4 and Apple will come up with here again
so hopefully this will solve another problem... does anyone know the truth about the glass on the iP4 being much more prone to scratches than previous versions?
It certainly won't..
well.. just hope that the appstore in London will be fully stocked at the beginning of August and I will bring at least one to our country :) (maybe there will be a white version as well)
Phe, such a mistake and what it cost them "shame". Hopefully it's true and hopefully a patch in the form of iOS4.01 will fix it ;)
My signal at home also drops out with my iPhone 3G, it keeps switching between Edge and 3G (it was quite annoying until I bought Wi-Fi), so first the signal drops and then it "loads" to full again. Maybe after 4.0.1 I will start to visualize it properly.
PS: I never missed a call, and I could try as hard as I wanted :-)
I had an iPhone 4 for free, after 15 minutes I gave it to someone. It was enough for me when my signal went out in the garage, where I already had 20 phones and none of them went out. The phone signal is absolutely the worst. I estimate 20-30% worse than the last one. I'm not interested in tests, I'm interested in reality. I have a new phone every month and I can afford such a rating. Even now I don't know what to buy, I waited half a year (
