For many years now, Apple has been criticized for a number of shortcomings, which are a matter of course in the case of competition. Due to the current arrival of the new Apple Studio Display monitor, another issue related to cabling is also starting to be addressed more and more. The power cable of the mentioned monitor is not detachable. So what to do if it gets damaged? In the case of practically all other monitors from competitors, you just need to run to the nearest electrician, buy a new cable for a few crowns and just plug it in at home. However, Apple has a different take on it.

When Studio Display got into the hands of foreign reviewers, the vast majority of them could not understand this move. In addition, there are innumerable ways in which a cable could be damaged in an ordinary home or studio. For example, it can be bitten by a pet, just run over it badly with a chair or get hooked on it in any other way, which can result in a problem. It is also possible to use a longer cable. So if the apple-picker needs to reach the socket, he is out of luck and will simply have to rely on an extension cable. But why?

Apple is going against users

What was even worse for many people was the discovery that the power cable from Studio Display is actually normally detachable. As shown in the videos, it only holds so tightly and strongly in the connector that it is necessary to use an extremely large amount of force or a suitable tool to disconnect it. Let's pour pure wine is a rather stupid solution, which the mind remains standing over. Especially when looking at last year's 24″ iMac with the M1 chip, whose power cable is normally detachable, while being a cheaper product. Moreover, this is not even the first time when we encounter literally the same problem. The situation is the same with the currently sold HomePod mini, which, on the other hand, has a slightly worse situation. Its braided USB-C cable leads directly to the body, so we can't help ourselves even with brute force.

So what is the point of deploying power cables that users cannot disconnect or replace themselves? Using common sense, we can find no reason for such a thing. As Linus from the channel also mentioned Linus Tech Tips, in this Apple even goes against itself. The truth is that a normal solution, which can be found in literally every other monitor, would please practically every user.

What if there is a problem?

In the end, there is still the question of how to proceed if the cable is really damaged? Although it can really be disconnected by force, Studio Display users have no way to help themselves. The monitor uses its own power cable, which is, of course, not in official distribution and therefore impossible to (officially) purchase separately. As already mentioned above, if you damage the cable of another monitor, you can easily solve the whole problem yourself, even in a watch. But you will have to contact an authorized Apple service for this Apple display. So it's no wonder that YouTubers recommend getting Apple Care+ for this reason. However, the Czech apple grower is very unlucky, as this additional service is simply not available in our country, and therefore even such a banal problem can cause a lot of complications.
