For quite some time, there has been speculation among Apple fans about the arrival of a redesigned iMac. Last year finally broke those expectations, when Apple introduced the 24″ iMac in a completely new body, which is also powered by a (relatively) new M1 chip from the Apple Silicon series. In terms of performance and appearance, the computer has thus moved to a new level. At the same time, Apple surprised us in a very special way. It is not directly about the design, but about the color scheme. The iMac (2021) plays with literally all colors. It is available in blue, green, pink, silver, yellow, orange and purple versions. Didn't Apple overshoot?

From the beginning, it looked like the Cupertino giant was ready to jump on a slightly different approach. There have even been speculations that the successor to the MacBook Air or iPad Air will come in the same colors. It was the iPad Air that was presented on the occasion of this year's first Apple Event, where the giant revealed the iPhone SE 3, the M1 Ultra chipset or the Mac Studio computer and the Studio Display monitor in addition to the tablet.

Is Apple about to leave the world of vivid colors?

A light foreshadowing of Apple's move to more vibrant colors was the 4th generation iPad Air from 2020. This piece was available in space gray, silver, green, rose gold and azure blue. Despite this, these are still fairly understandable variants, with apple fans also having the option of reaching for the tried-and-tested space gray or silver. For this reason, it could be expected that this year's iPad Air 5th generation will be relatively similar. Although the device is again available in five color combinations, namely space gray, pink, purple, blue and starry white, these are actually slightly duller colors that do not attract as much attention compared to the previous generation or the 24″ iMac.

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro also came in new shades, specifically in green and alpine green respectively. Again, these are not exactly two-pronged variants, which primarily do not offend with their appearance and generally have a neutral effect. It was because of these news that Apple fans began to speculate whether Apple is not aware of its own mistake with the mentioned iMacs. In terms of colors, they are overkill for some.

On the other hand, these steps by the apple company make sense. With this step, Apple could distinguish professional devices from so-called entry-level devices, which is precisely the situation in the Mac segment. In that case, colorful MacBook Airs would play into the cards of this prediction. However, it is necessary to approach such changes with extreme caution, as users are primarily conservative in the field of design and do not have to accept such differences with open arms. It is understandably still unclear whether Apple will eventually go head-to-head with vivid colors or slowly retreat from them. The biggest clue will probably be the MacBook Air with the M2 chip, which according to the leaks and speculations available so far could arrive this fall.
