Apple is once again waging a battle with Facebook - but this time the battle between the two giants is taking place on the field of real estate. Both companies are seeking a location in a luxury office complex in Manhattan. According to a newspaper report The New York Post there was speculation that the generous 740-square-foot space would house Facebook. This year, however, the premises also caught the eye of Apple representatives.

The mentioned offices are located in the premises of the former post office (James A. Farley Building) in the center of Manhattan. Neither Facebook nor Apple are slouching, and both companies are interested in preventing all four floors of the building, along with a floor that was newly built in the rooftop space. The real estate company Vornado Realty Trust is in charge of the building. The company is chaired by Steve Roth, who, among other things, leases space to Facebook in another part of New York. That could theoretically give Facebook a better chance of getting a spot in the James A. Farley Building.

The former post office building occupies an entire block at 390 Ninth Avenue between West 30th and 33rd Streets, and has been a New York landmark since 1966. As part of the renovation, a new subway station will be added to the building, and the lower floors and ground floor should then occupy shops and restaurants.

In the event that Facebook eventually settles in the building of the former Manhattan post office, Apple has another New York post office building in its sights. This is the Morgan North Post Office, which is also due for extensive renovation. But Amazon is also interested in this. He initially expressed interest in offices in the James A. Farley Building, but backed out of negotiations when Facebook came forward. Premises at Morgan North Post Office are due to open in 2021.
