Are you an iPhone 3G owner with iOS4 installed? Have you ever had your iPhone freeze or your desired app crash several times when you launch it? If yes, then we have some tips for you to speed up iOS4 on iPhone 3G.

About one of the tips we are you previously reported – before installing iOS4 on your device, do a DFU restore (backup your data first, of course). But what if this tutorial doesn't help and the iPhone continues to be slow?

You have the opportunity to try 5 more tips for acceleration:

1. Perform a hard reset on your iPhone 3G

  • A "hard" reset clears the RAM. Perform a "hard" reset twice to achieve the desired effect. Follow the steps below for this reset:
  1. Press and hold the Home button and Sleep button at the same time for about 5-10 seconds.
  2. Hold these two buttons until the iPhone turns off and restarts. That is Until you see the silver Apple logo.
  3. I have successfully reset my iPhone.

2. Turn off the option to set the background wallpaper

  • If your device is jailbroken and you used the RedSn0w tool, you may have set the option to change the background under the icons (or background wallpaper). However, this option uses some of the iPhone's RAM, mainly due to the shadow effects on the "desktop" icons. To turn off the ability to change the background:
  1. Go to the ROOT folder.
  2. Next to /System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app
  3. In this folder, edit the N82AP.plist file and change:

homescreen-wallpaper

behind:

homescreen-wallpaper

4. Save the change. This again disables the ability to change the background under the icons

3. Restore iPhone

  • You can also try to restore your iPhone 3G, but then do not restore the data from the backup, but use "set it up as a new phone".

4. Turn off Spotlight search

  • By turning off Spotlight search, you will reduce the overall system load. To turn it off go to settings/general/home button/Spotlight search, uncheck as many things as you can.

5. Downgrade your iOS 4 to 3.1.3

  • If none of the previous tips helped you and your device keeps crashing, you can downgrade to a lower version of iOS.

I hope that at least one of the listed tips helped you to run more smoothly without chopping and crashing running applications on the iPhone 3G. I personally have also been struggling with this problem for some time and tip #2 helped me quite a lot.

Give it a try and then share any other tips, results, or feedback with us in the comments. Finally, for fun, you can watch the following video, which parodies the operation of iOS4 on an iPhone 3G.
