Are you an iPhone 3G owner with iOS4 installed? Have you ever had your iPhone freeze or your desired app crash several times when you launch it? If yes, then we have some tips for you to speed up iOS4 on iPhone 3G.
About one of the tips we are you previously reported – before installing iOS4 on your device, do a DFU restore (backup your data first, of course). But what if this tutorial doesn't help and the iPhone continues to be slow?
You have the opportunity to try 5 more tips for acceleration:
1. Perform a hard reset on your iPhone 3G
- A "hard" reset clears the RAM. Perform a "hard" reset twice to achieve the desired effect. Follow the steps below for this reset:
- Press and hold the Home button and Sleep button at the same time for about 5-10 seconds.
- Hold these two buttons until the iPhone turns off and restarts. That is Until you see the silver Apple logo.
- I have successfully reset my iPhone.
2. Turn off the option to set the background wallpaper
- If your device is jailbroken and you used the RedSn0w tool, you may have set the option to change the background under the icons (or background wallpaper). However, this option uses some of the iPhone's RAM, mainly due to the shadow effects on the "desktop" icons. To turn off the ability to change the background:
- Go to the ROOT folder.
- Next to /System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app
- In this folder, edit the N82AP.plist file and change:
behind:
4. Save the change. This again disables the ability to change the background under the icons
3. Restore iPhone
- You can also try to restore your iPhone 3G, but then do not restore the data from the backup, but use "set it up as a new phone".
4. Turn off Spotlight search
- By turning off Spotlight search, you will reduce the overall system load. To turn it off go to settings/general/home button/Spotlight search, uncheck as many things as you can.
5. Downgrade your iOS 4 to 3.1.3
- If none of the previous tips helped you and your device keeps crashing, you can downgrade to a lower version of iOS.
I hope that at least one of the listed tips helped you to run more smoothly without chopping and crashing running applications on the iPhone 3G. I personally have also been struggling with this problem for some time and tip #2 helped me quite a lot.
Give it a try and then share any other tips, results, or feedback with us in the comments. Finally, for fun, you can watch the following video, which parodies the operation of iOS4 on an iPhone 3G.

So I was not very amused by the video considering that this is exactly how my 3G behaves since the update to iOS4. I've done restore and DFU restore and there's really no change, turning off Spotlight might have helped a little, especially in Mail.app, but nothing else. What boggles my mind is that there are also individuals for whom 3G works well with iOS4..
It's true that I didn't try DFU + set up as new phone because I'm worried that I'll lose something thanks to it - sms? app settings? (my vyderne high scores? :)
Exactly as you write, you will unfortunately lose it. When I switched to iOS4, I put "set up as new phone" and it ran fine, then I did a RedSn0w jailbreak, enabled the change of the background under the icons and it started to crash a lot, yesterday I turned it off and adjusted the spotlight options and it works fine again: )).
The background can be enabled so that the 3G RAM does not eat up so much. Just delete a couple of files that create shadows under the icons (shadows under the labels will still be generated), more here: http://cl.ly/1iz6
This is how I do it and it works great :-)
Thanks, I will definitely try :).
Edit: it works great. You can change the picture on your desktop and it doesn't get cut.
So I don't know, I tried everything except "set up as new phone" and downgrade? Can anyone confirm that it will go fast if I put it as a new foun? I don't want to waste a year and a half of text messages unnecessarily...
And where can I download iOS 3.1.3 so I can downgrade?
Try it here:
http://www.iphoneheat.com/2009/03/download-iphone-firmware-files-all-at-one-place/
But it still doesn't change us over time. I am gradually porting all apps etc. to iOS4.
and there will be no other option than to buy an iP4. But that's what it's all about, zeano.
Or alternatively here: http://www.hackint0sh.org/f127/22056.htm
The problems I had with the 3GS/32 with iOS4.0 somehow went away by installing the developer version of iOS4.1, which was released to me by an SDK owner.
in version 4.1 I secretly hope that something in the system could be optimized based on the reactions of a large part of 3G users. I'll wait until it's released and then downgrade.
I also have the impression that Apple overs**t it with iOS4... With iOS3, my iPhone 4G has degenerated to somewhere on the level of the pre-iPhone era - nibbling, jerking, application crashes.... only stupid SMS messages open for tens of seconds. In addition, they arrived with the 4.0.1 update, after which it loses the signal even where it worked before... (it just crosses a certain line and it leaks).... I've been saying this for a long time, but lately it's been confirmed to me more and more - Apple is unfortunately a completely different company today (and significantly poorer) than it was in 2005...

I personally think the speed of OS 4 is OK, but I have to restart twice a day because I get emails with the text "The message has no content" and the remaining 0 bytes cannot be downloaded. I'm pretty sick...re. I don't know what it is but the restarts sometimes take time. Does anyone know what it could be. it's for mail with attachments or HTML elements, when it's just "text without formatting" the email is OK, but there are quite a few of them. Oh, and after a restart it won't load the message anyway.
How do I get to the ROOTS folder?
Thanks. Novel.
you can get to ROOT only if you have a jailbreak. To do this, you need a program for "browsing" the system folders on the iPhone, for example DiskAid or you can download iFile from Cydia on the iPhone.
If you have a 3G jailbreak and Cydia, just download the zToggle app - it allows you to turn off multitasking and the background without having to reinstall the OS.
Tried and tested, works like lightning!
There is no zToggle in Cydia! Only Toggle SSH! Is that it? Thanks
So I laughed heartily once again. The article titled "5 Tips to Speed Up iOS4 on iPhone 3G" has as a tip "Downgrade your iOS 4 to 3.1.3". Nothing beats good advice :)
I can only also write that the iPhone 3G became a different mobile phone with OS 4, reminding me of the days with wm. Restarting the phone only helps for a certain amount of time. I'm so disappointed at the moment that after two years of satisfaction I'm considering trying some Android :-(
I share your opinion, it also pulls me elsewhere. I would buy an iPhone 4, but in my opinion it is not such a bargain that I would pay 22k CZK for a phone that has a fault in the antenna
I have another question if I were to downgrade - which lower version was fast?
Yes. Apple really nailed this. Actually, he's been screwing up more things lately. This company is no longer what it used to be. I've been using Apple since 2002, and the crap that comes my way is unparalleled! I am really disappointed with the quality of the products and the company's attitude. I am seriously thinking that I will leave the products of this company after so many years .. both the phone and computers. The only thing I keep is my iPod. He's really great for running. Otherwise...
Sir, what did you expect? Does 3Gcko run like a rope for you? After a few weeks of suffering, I went back to downgrade to 3.1.3 and it's great. The iPhone runs fast, you still don't appreciate the new functions on the 3G, so what? Downgrade or buy an iP4. Now my old 3G works great and I'm fine...
This is very nice, but it is only a temporary solution. The iOS4 API has hundreds of new functions, and sooner or later developers will start using them routinely, either in new applications or in updates to existing ones. And if you don't have 4.0+ fw, you won't download and install the app.
I'll just add that I haven't really seen an iPhone 3G with a four-core system running fast. If the author of the last article is here, then I sincerely laugh. Me with
the downgrade to 3.1.3 really dazzled the overall speed and I don't intend to change anything about it. If anyone is interested, I can publish a fairly simple procedure for this downgrade...
So I think I will definitely appreciate the tutorial. Thanks in advance. ;)
I will also be glad for instructions. I've seen it somewhere online, but repetition is the mother of wisdom. Come with him please. Thank you
I don't have the slightest problem with iOS4.0.1, the phone is just as fast and the battery lasts longer. And the new features are great. I have 3G. :-)
And did you "set up as new phone" or did it go quickly even after restoring the backup?
For those who want to speed up iOS4 on a 3G iPhone, I recommend turning off multitasking in a simple way.
Instructions, for example, here http://xaviesteve.com/disable-multitasking-in-ios4-no-jailbreaking-needed/
Hi, I know it doesn't fit here, but I want to ask, does it take good photos? I want to buy a 3G because I mainly want to have an iphone :)
I think yes, although I will have time to answer you in two years, but I have a 3GS and the photos are amazing (it is 3 years old
It's already pissing me off... it cuts like crazy, if I hadn't paid so much for it two years ago, I would have stomped on it a long time ago :D
But to the point... if I reset the iPhone and set it up as a new device, will I only lose SMS or even contacts and notes??? those contacts are probably essential….
Thanks for the reply :)
