Nowadays, there are probably few people who do not use the YouTube platform at least occasionally. In the vast majority of cases, many of us will certainly be satisfied with the basic functions – playback, search, or adding videos to various lists. However, it is certainly useful to know a few other tips that will make using the YouTube platform a little more pleasant for you.

Control on mobile devices

If you're watching a playlist on your iPhone or iPad or have autoplay enabled, you can swipe right or left to move between videos in the playlist. You can also double-tap on the right or left side of the video to move ten seconds back or forward in the video.

Efficient search

Similar to Google, you can also use more efficient search methods on the YouTube platform. You can use quotation marks to search for an exact expression, "+" and "-" characters can be used to include or exclude a specific expression. If you enter "allintitle" before the entered terms, you will guarantee the display of results containing all the mentioned keywords. You can specify the video format by adding terms such as "HD", "360°" or perhaps "3D". To specify the type of results (lists of videos, channels...) you can use the Filters section. In the web version of YouTube, you can find it to the left of the search field, on mobile devices it is in the upper right corner (row icon with sliders). To make it easier to find content from that creator, you can use "#[creator name]" (without spaces) in the search.

Protect your eyes with dark mode

More and more websites and apps support dark mode, and YouTube is no exception. You can activate the dark mode both in the version for web browsers and in applications. On the YouTube website, click the icon with your profile picture on the top right and select “Darkt Theme On”. In the YouTube app for iOS devices, tap your icon on the top right of the home page, choose Settings, and turn on the dark theme.

Create a GIF

Did you know that you can also easily create an animated GIF from a YouTube video? All you have to do is add the term "gif" to the beginning of the URL address of the selected video in the address bar - the address will then start with "gifyoutube". After you press Enter, you will be redirected to a website where you can further edit and customize the animated GIF.

For easier and faster control of YouTube, you can also use a number of keyboard shortcuts in its version in the web browser interface. Which ones are they?
