Choose what you want to see

When you set up your start page in Safari on Mac, you can choose what to display on it. You can choose the displayed elements according to your taste, needs, or perhaps privacy. So if you don't want to leave the start page completely blank, you can choose from the following items.

  • Favorite sites: Quick access to your most used websites and bookmarked folders.
  • Recently closed tabs: Have you accidentally closed a page? No problem, you can easily find it here.
  • Cards from iCloud: Do you have work split across multiple devices? Access open pages from your iPhone or iPad right on your Mac.
  • Most visited: Safari remembers where you go most often and displays those sites on the Start Page for quick access.
  • Shared with you: Get an overview of the links your friends have sent you in apps like Messages.
  • Privacy Notice: A quick look at how Safari protects your privacy online.
  • Siri suggestions: Siri can recommend interesting websites based on your activities in Mail, Messages and other apps.
  • Reading list: Get quick access to articles stored in your Reading List.

Just click on the sliders icon at the bottom right and check the items you want to display.

Change the order of the sections

Safari on Mac also allows you to customize the order of the sections displayed on the start page. By default, Safari's home page shows your favorites at the top, along with recently closed tabs, iCloud tabs, and more. However, you can easily change their position by clicking on the settings icon and then dragging the options up or down.

Set your own background

If you click on the sliders icon at the bottom right of the main page of Safari on Mac, you can also choose to set your own image as the background of the start page in the menu, among other things. Check the item Background image – at the bottom of the menu you will see a menu of wallpapers. You can also set your own photo if you right-click on the wallpaper on the home page and choose Choose Background.

Delete unnecessary items

See something on the Start Page that you don't want there? Just right-click on the item and select an option Delete. This way you can remove items from Recently Closed Tabs, Reading List or Favorites. If you want to remove the background, right click on the wallpaper and select Remove background.

Mac Safari delete elements

When you open a new tab in Safari on your Mac, you'll automatically see the start page here. If you want to keep the start page as the one that appears immediately when you start Safari, and not on the next newly opened tab, click the menu bar at the top of your Mac's screen on Safari -> Settings. At the top of the window, select In general and then in the item's drop-down menu Open in a new panel select the desired variant.
