Yesterday evening we finally saw the release of the public version of macOS 11.2 Big Sur. Alongside this public version, however, the first beta versions of the upcoming systems were also released – namely iOS, iPadOS and tvOS 14.5, together with watchOS 7.4. Individual releases of new systems that also change the terminal number often come with several new features in addition to fixing errors and bugs - iOS 14.5 is no different. Specifically, we can look forward to several new functions on our iPhones, which we will use both in the current coronavirus era, but also when browsing the Internet. In this article, we will look together at 5 new features from iOS 14.5.

Unlocking iPhone with Face ID with mask on

At the moment, it's been about a year since we've been fighting the coronavirus pandemic all over the world. Unfortunately, the Czech Republic is still the so-called "number one in covid", which is definitely not something we should be proud of. Unfortunately, important decisions are not left to us, but above all to our government and other competent individuals. We, as residents, can prevent the spread of the COVID-19 disease by following precautions and especially by wearing masks. However, if you have an iPhone with Face ID, you certainly know that unlocking with a mask on is not entirely easy. Fortunately, Apple came up with a solution in iOS 14.5 that Apple Watch owners can use. If you need to quickly unlock your iPhone with Face ID and you have an Apple Watch on, you will no longer need to remove the mask or tap the code - the Apple phone will unlock automatically.

Tracking requirements

Apple is one of the few tech giants that cares at least a little about protecting the privacy of its users. As part of operating system updates, they have been trying for a long time to make users feel safe and to prevent the collection and misuse of user data. For example, in the major versions of iOS 14 and macOS 11 Big Sur, we saw the introduction of the Privacy Report function in Safari, which informs you of how many website trackers the apple browser has prevented from compiling your profile. However, there is a new tweak that will require all apps to always ask you if you allow them to track you in apps and across websites. You can then manage these requests in Settings -> Privacy -> Tracking.

Support for drivers from new consoles

If you are one of the lucky ones who managed to get a new generation game console in the form of PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X in the madness, then I have great news for you. If you wanted to connect the controller of these new consoles to an iPhone (or iPad) in an older version of iOS, you couldn't. However, with the arrival of iOS 14.5, Apple finally comes with support for these controllers, so you will finally be able to use them even when playing on an Apple phone or tablet.

Dual SIM 5G support on iPhone 12

Even though the 5G network is still not fully widespread in the country, there are some big cities where you can use it. As you probably know, the iPhone has been offering Dual SIM for several years - the first slot is available in the classic physical form, the second is then in the form of an eSIM. If you wanted to use Dual SIM on the iPhone 12 together with 5G, then unfortunately this option was missing, which a huge number of users complained about. Fortunately, it was not a hardware limitation, but only a software one. This means that with the arrival of iOS 14.5, this error is finally fixed and you will now be able to use 5G on both of your SIM cards and not just one.

New feature in Apple Card

Unfortunately, Apple Card is still not available outside of the United States. As far as payment functions are concerned, we also had to wait several long years for Apple Pay, for example. It will be practically the same with the Apple Card, only this time is expected to be much longer. However, in iOS 14.5, a new function is coming for Apple Card, thanks to which users will be able to share their Apple card across their entire family. This will significantly simplify its use by individual family members. This could again increase the popularity of the Apple Card in a certain way, thanks to which we could see an expansion to other countries ... and hopefully to Europe as well. Would you buy an Apple Card if it were available in the Czech Republic?
