Apple refused to allow the game The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth into the App Store due to violence against children (February 8)

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, is a continuation, or rather an extension, of the successful game of the independent studio. It is an arcade type of game and its main character is the biblical Isaac in the form of a very young boy who is faced with complex obstacles in his attempt to escape his mother. The mother wants to sacrifice him, just like father Abraham in the biblical story, according to God's command.

The game was released in 2011 and was available for Windows, OS X, and Linux computers. The creators were later offered the option to convert it to large and mobile consoles and other mobile devices. Even then, the game faced adversity from Nintendo, which did not allow a port on the 3DS console. But at the end of 2014, a renewed and expanded version of the game, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, was released, which was available for computers as well as PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and Xbox One consoles. The basic plot and gameplay remain the same as in the original title, but with the addition of enemies, bosses, challenges, abilities of the game's hero, etc.

The game Rebirth was also supposed to be released for iOS in the near future, but Apple prevented its arrival in the App Store as part of the approval process. The reason for this was quoted in a tweet from Tyrone Rodriguez, director of the game's developer studio: "Your app contains elements depicting violence or abuse against children, which is not allowed on the App Store."

Adobe Flash Professional CC has been permanently renamed to Animate CC and received many new features (9/2)

Adobe last December has announced that their Flash Professional CC animation software will be renamed on Adobe Animate CC. Although this was seen as Adobe's retirement of Flash, Animate CC was still supposed to fully support it. This is confirmed with the arrival of the latest version of this animation software, which bears a new name and greatly expands its capabilities.

The news mostly concerns HTML5, more precisely HTML5 Canvas documents. They have new support for TypeKit, the ability to create templates and attach them to published profiles. HTML5 Canvas documents (as well as AS3 and WebGL) are now also supported when publishing in OEM format. Working with HTML5 also involves many improvements. The HTML5 Canvas format itself has been improved, which now offers wider options for strokes on the canvas and more options for working with filters. Performance when working in HTML has been optimized using the combined CreateJS library.

More generally, Creative Cloud libraries and the Adobe Stock service are now fully integrated into working with Animate CC, and vector object brushes known from, for example, Adobe Illustrator have been added. ActionScript documents can now be published as projector files (Adobe Animate files containing both a SWF file and a flash player to run them). Transparencies and video export options have been improved, support for importing SVG images and much more has been added. A complete list of news items and instructions for working with them are available at Adobe website.

Also updated are Muse CC (includes new editable designs for web design) and Bridge (in OS X 10.11 supports importing from iOS devices, Android devices, and digital cameras).

An application for recognizing dog breeds came out of Microsoft's garage (February 11)

As part of Microsoft's "garage activities", another interesting iPhone application was created. It's called Fetch! and her task is to recognize the breed of the dog through the iPhone camera. The application uses the Project Oxford API and is based on a similar principle as the website HowOld.net a TwinsOrNot.net.

The application is supposed to be, above all, another example of how far Microsoft has come with research in this area, and the result is, in any case, admirable. You can take photos for recognition directly in the application or choose from your own gallery. The application is also fun. You can also "analyze" your friends with it and find out which dog they resemble.

Fetch! you can download it for free in the App Store.

Serato Pyro offers professional DJ capabilities in an app

Serato is one of the most famous and important DJing software creators. So far, it has mainly dealt with software for professionals. However, its latest product, Pyro, tries to use the knowledge in the given field acquired during the seventeen years of the company's existence and offer it in the most efficient form to every owner of an iOS device. This means that the Pyro application connects to the music library of the given device (from the streaming services, it can only work with Spotify so far) and plays either the playlists it finds in it, or offers the user the option to create another one, or does it itself.

At the same time, these are not three separate options - the creators tried to have the most organic approach to creating and editing playlists. The user can change them in any way during playback, add or remove songs, change their order, etc. If the playlist created by the user ends, the application automatically selects other songs to play so that there is never silence.

But since this is a DJ application, its main strength should lie in the ability to create smooth transitions between tracks. For two subsequent compositions, it analyzes parameters such as the tempo and the harmonic scale that the composition ends or begins with, and if it finds differences, it adjusts the conclusion of one and the beginning of the other composition so that they follow each other as smoothly as possible. This process also includes finding the moment when the transition between two given tracks is best with as few changes as possible.

Serato tried all the elements of the application, from the used algorithms to the user environment, to provide the most natural experience possible, which does not disturb the smooth listening, but at the same time invites its constant modification. In connection with this, it will also offer an application for Apple Watch allowing you to browse and edit the playlist.

Final Fantasy IX has arrived on iOS

At the end of last year, the publisher Square Enix announced that in 2016 a full-fledged port of the legendary RPG game Final Fantasy IX will be released on iOS. However, nothing else has been announced, especially a release date. So it is quite a surprise that the release has already taken place.

Through several main characters, the game follows a complex plot set in the fantastic world of Gaia and its four continents, determined by different dominant races. As announced, the iOS version of the game features all the elements from the original PlayStation title, plus adds new challenges and achievements, game modes, auto-save and high-definition graphics.

Until February 21, Final Fantasy IX will be in the App Store available for 16,99 euros, then the price will increase by 20%, i.e. to approximately 21 euros. The game is very extensive, it takes up 4 GB of device storage and you need 8 GB of free space to download it.

Nimble or Wolfram Alpha in the OS X menu bar

The well-known tool Wolfram Aplha, which is also used by the voice assistant Siri for some of its answers, is certainly a handy helper. However, it is not always at hand, which is what the Nimble application from the trio of developers from the Bright studio is trying to change on the Mac. Nimble places Wolfram Alpha directly in your menu bar, i.e. the upper system bar of OS X.

Wolfram Alpha works exactly the same through Nimble as it does on the web, but it's much easier to reach, and it's nice that it's also wrapped in a sleek and minimalist user interface. To get your answers, just type a simple question into Nimble and absorb the result. You can ask about unit conversions, facts of all kinds, solving mathematical problems and the like.

If you want to try Nimble, download it for free on the developer's website.

Important update

Sleep++ 2.0 brings a new algorithm for a better overview of your own sleep

Perhaps the best app for analyzing sleep through the movement sensors of the Apple Watch has received an update. The Sleep++ app from developer David Smith is now available in version 2.0 and features a redesigned algorithm that differentiates between different depths and types of sleep. He then carefully records them on the timeline.

Heavy sleep, shallow sleep, restless sleep and wakefulness are now rigorously analyzed by the application, and the collected data is much more useful for users thanks to the new algorithm. This is also reflected in the improved support of HealthKit, into which more interesting data flows. On the plus side, the new algorithm will also recalculate older records of your sleep after installing the update. In addition, Sleep++ 2.0 also brings support for time zones, so that the application will finally measure your night's rest in a relevant way even on the go.

Updated application download for free in the App Store.
