Social photography network development team Piictu announced today that the service is ending. This comes thanks to the acquisition of Betaworks, which also bought the Instapaper app and service this month. According to the announcement, the team will join the developers kandu, which is an as yet unknown startup Betaworks.

The service will be terminated on May 31st, users will not lose their photos, they can request to have them sent by e-mail. Piictu first came to the attention of users thanks to the New York accelerator TechStars, Czech developers from Tapmates, including the Czech graphic artist Robin Raszka. The service worked similarly to the better-known Instagram (now owned by Facebook), instead of tagging and captioning photos, users created threads with a single topic.
