Until now, the unique version of the Leica M camera designed by Jony Ive has been shrouded in mystery. All that was known was that this piece would be part of the Product (RED) campaign and would be auctioned off for charity. But now, for the first time, Leica has shown what the camera will look like…

However, the legendary camera of the German company was not created by Jony Ive himself, another seasoned designer Marc Newson collaborated with him. He probably shares the same values as Apple's design guru, because at first glance the Leica M from the Product (RED) edition exudes simplicity.

Ive and Newson had to undergo an 85-day long design marathon, during which they allegedly created 1000 prototypes of various parts, and the redesigned Leica M is the result of a total of 561 test models. And it is certainly not a product unlike those from Apple. The main characteristic here is the chassis made of anodized aluminum, in which there are laser-created miniature holes that resemble the speakers from the MacBook Pro.

The special version of the Leica M will include a full-frame CMOS sensor, the powerful processor of the new Leica APO-Summicron 50mm f/2 ASPH lens.

Only one model will see the light of day, which will be auctioned at Sotheby's auction house on November 23, and the proceeds will go to the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. Apple headphones with 18-carat gold, for example, will also be auctioned as part of a large charity event. But the greatest interest is expected for the Leica M camera.
