A few hours ago, an update to the OS X - Lion operating system was released to the world (that is, to the Mac App Store). It will bring Mission Control, new Mail, Launchpad, Fullscreen applications, Autosave and many other news and improvements. We already know that it is available only through the Mac App Store at a price of 29 dollars (for us it is 23,99 €) for all computers in the home.
So let's see what is needed for a successful update:
- Minimum hardware requirements: to update to Lion, you must have at least an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2GB of RAM. This means computers that are no more than 5 years old. Specifically, these are Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 and Xeon. These processors support the 64-bit architecture on which Lion is primarily built, the older Core Duo and Core Solo do not.
- Snow Leopard is also required for the update - the application to enter the Mac App Store appeared on OS X in the form of an update. If you have Leopard, you must first update (i.e. buy the boxed version) to Snow Leopard, install the update containing the Mac App Store, and then install Lion. In theory, it is also possible to download Lion on another computer, upload the file to a DVD or flash drive (or any other medium) and thus transfer to an older version of the system, but this possibility is not verified.
- If you have a very poor internet connection and downloading a 4GB package is unthinkable for you, it is possible to buy Lion on a flash key in Apple Premium Reseller stores for a price of $69 (converted to approx. 1200 CZK), the conditions are then exactly the same as for installation from the Mac App Store.
- If you plan to migrate from a computer running OS X Snow Leopard to another computer running Lion, you will also need to install the "Migration Assistant for Snow Leopard" update. You download it <a href="https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1932/8043/files/200721_ODSTOUPENI_BEZ_UDANI_DUVODU__EN.pdf?v=1595428404" data-gt-href-en="https://en.notsofunnyany.com/">here</a>.
The update itself is then extremely simple:
First, make sure you have the latest version of the system, i.e. 10.6.8. If not, open Software Update and install any available updates.
Then just launch the Mac App Store, the link to Lion is right on the main page, or search for the keyword "Lion". We then click on the price, enter the password and the update will start downloading.
After downloading the installation package, we just follow the instructions and in a few tens of minutes we can already work on a completely new system.
After launching the installation package, click Continue.
In the next step, we agree to the license terms. We click on Agree and we confirm the consent once more shortly.
Subsequently, we select the disk on which we want to install OS X Lion.
The system then shuts down all running applications, prepares for the installation process, and reboots.
After rebooting, the installation itself will start.
After the installation is complete, you will either log in on the login screen or you will already appear directly in your account. You will receive a short message about the new way of scrolling, which you can try immediately and in the next step you will start using OS X Lion for real.

Could you post a tutorial on how to install Lion when you bought a new Mac after 6.6…. This means an automatic entitlement to a free Lion update... But I had no idea how to do it, so I had to ask the seller, who referred me to https://uptodate.apple.com/cz/uptodate/macosx/ and now I'm waiting for a redeem code directly from Apple...
There is an UpToDate program on the Apple website and you need to enter the Mac serial number there and order... Unfortunately, you have to enter a fake US address... Then you will receive a redeem code to the AppStore by email.
btw: it asked me for a credit card, but it doesn't withdraw any money from it.
Hello,
I went through this procedure and it still tells me that the serial number is unreadable. It is 100% entered correctly - copied from system information. Don't you know what it could be?
same problem, copied from syst. info, and displays an unreadable number..
I have the same problem, it also tells me that the serial number is unreadable :- With respect, I will probably have to buy it.
… Try typing it there manually … without copying …
I wrote it by hand... so is it possible to cheat in copying through the locker?!?
I do it manually, even through the mailbox, and nothing - today I'm contacting Apple support and I'll let you know what they think about it :)
I also copied over the clipboard and wrote by hand... I even tried to write the letters in small letters, etc. I tried everything possible and nothing :-S ... they probably want us to buy it :-S otherwise I can't see it :-) I still wondered if MacBook type 2010 bought 9.6 has the right to it but I found it in the list of qualified devices... it's kind of weird
… well, nothing – support is still only in English, so I haven’t tried yet… I can’t come to an agreement with them to that extent…
I searched on the internet, a lot of people all over Europe have this problem, it's an Apple problem, everyone who called support was told to wait, they're already working on it... :-/
A while ago I was at iStyle CZ in Brno, it's not far from work.... they say it's being handled by Apple management and I should follow their website... so we'll see :-)
So, on the 13th (!) attempt, I again tried to enter the (same) number manually and ... it went through. I'm already waiting for the request to be verified. In any case, it looks like some kind of error in the system, and it's probably not surprising, because yesterday the site was overloaded and unavailable for several hours. No wonder if they have problems with the serial number database.
Richard: did you still try to click on add on the page where you enter the serial number? I've already tried it maybe 100 times even yesterday and still nothing :-(
Can I ask how long after sending the redeem request the code will arrive?
The email arrived in about 2 minutes, but the redeem code is/was also on the last page with the confirmation of receipt of the order... it's just called something else... I think "Lion Content Code"... it's described in the 3-point instruction at the end of the order and it will also come in email... nowhere does it explicitly say "redeem code".
Thanks a lot. After sending the request, I only received an email saying that it was being processed and that "After verifying your request, we will send you an application code". So I'm waiting, I reckon they're verifying that proof of purchase.
Did you get the code yet? I am also waiting for him….:-(
I'm waiting too, it's been 1 day and nothing, when did it arrive?
I would like to ask. I have a macbook pro, my dad has an aira. so if I buy lion for the €23,99, can I install it on my pro and my dad's aira?
Yes, just use the same iTunes ID.
It was also enough to burn it to DVD from the first download. The instructions are on somewhat more comprehensive foreign websites. It worked for my Apples. It was enough to buy Lion once, burn the dmg file from the package via Disk Utility, and then it went everywhere.
if you are logged in to the mac appstore with the same account, you can buy it once and install it twice (maybe there is some limit to the number, but I don't know about it)
great thanks I'm on it :)

Hello, will I lose data on my HDD when I install a new system? Do I need to back up my data and apps?
No. It continues to work without loss…
I would also like to ask, how is it with the 64-bit? I read somewhere that lion no longer supports 32 bit, only 64, which would probably bother me a bit.
But it is written right at the beginning of the article :) ... I quote: These processors support the 64-bit architecture on which Lion is primarily built, the older Core Duo and Core Solo do not.
So 32-bit won't work. Time to change Mac :)
I have 64 mb pro, but it's about applications. i mean if i can run 32 apps?
Yes. But old PowerPC applications will not run, Lion does not include Rosetta.
It doesn't just run PowerPC Apps.
Is there any way to upgrade without needing an iTunes account with a credit card? So far, I've only downloaded free apps and haven't used a credit card.
It is written in the article: If you have a very poor Internet connection and downloading a 4GB package is unthinkable for you, it is possible to buy Lion on a flash key in Apple Premium Reseller stores for a price of 69 dollars (converted to about 1200 CZK), the conditions are then exactly the same as when installing from the Mac App Store.
Could someone tell me what version of Python and Numpa is in Lion?
$> python -V
respectively
$> python -c “import numpy; print numpy.__version__"
Thanks!
kubbing@mini:~ $ python -V
Python 2.7.1
kubbing@mini:~ $ python -c “import numpy; print numpy.__version__"

Hello. I have 2 questions.
1) even if Parallels is installed with Windows, will it still run the same as on Snow Leopard? Will there be no change as in Mac Os???
2) if we have 2 Apple computers at home, but different accounts, can I buy Lion on one, log in to the same account on the other, download Lion and then log in to the original account again?? Am I getting it right?
Dekuji
I would make an installation DVD by burning the .dmg file and then install it on another computer.
Parallels runs the same as before the update to Lion.
So not me. It says that the parallels driver cannot be loaded. So I'm here wondering what to do with it now
I downloaded some parallels launcher and it works through it.. try googling, I don't know exactly where it was, if you can't find it I can fix it somewhere.
Hello,
I would also like to talk about the Parallels launcher. I found it on Hotfile on Google, but I can't download it at all. If you could throw it somewhere on share-rapid, hellshare or uloz.to I will be very grateful!!
Thanks
I also have 1 possibly stupid question:
after purchasing Lion from the AppStore, only the "Install Mac OS X Lion" app installed for me. But I don't want to install immediately, I would like to save the entire installation, for example, as a .dmg, just as if they sent it to me on a CD, is that possible?
Thanks.
Yes, it does. Click on the downloaded file. Put show package content and you will find a few GB file in the .dmg structure (there will be only one). Burn it to DVD and that's it.
I have a question - once I've downloaded Mac OS X Lion on one Mac, will the "Install Mac OS X Lion" app dragged from the first to my second Mac look like it was downloaded from the Mac App Store? Or can there be problems? (I don't want to drag the 3.74 GB of data with local internet speed again)
You guys! Does anyone here even read the previous answers. It's here at least 3 times!!!
what? what answers? what for? I just want an answer to what I'm asking! because I won't clean the whole site! I don't have time for that! what do you think the party is here for? I'll ask and you answer hello...
sry, great irony :-))))))))))
But that's how many really see it. :-)
This is taking about 2 hours to download and I'm barely on the go, I download other files much faster, the server is probably overloaded and can't upload
Hello everyone. Downloaded in an hour and installed in half an hour. Zitra will be investigated. :-).
Please, I already have Lion installed, but somehow I can't set the Czech language there, in system preferences – languages and text, I have the Czech language, but it doesn't work at all, please advise. Thank you
Simply drag the selected language (in this case, Czech) to the top of the list. Then just wait. The language will change in the applications after restarting them and in the finder after logging into the account again.
Petr: I have a question, where did you read that Apple computers purchased after 6.6 have Lion for free? I'm planning to go buy a new macbook pro and I'd like a lion right away and I'll ask the seller right away.
the fact that there is an update for a mac purchased after 6.6.2011/XNUMX/XNUMX is also written in the conditions on the apple.com page
Has anyone tried parallels desktop yet?
It's great, only closing, minimizing and maximizing the application have some small buttons and sometimes it cuts a bit, but otherwise it's better than Snow Leopard and Safari, at least it's a fofr.
I'm not sure Lion is better than Snow Leopard. Somehow I can't get used to certain things. But what bothers me the most so far is that my photos are no longer displayed in full screen (I mean previews), but in a strip. This is very inconvenient. When I have 500 photos, Snow shows them in the form of an index, I couldn't figure it out with Lion and I tried everywhere.
I have 3 questions :D I don't have a Mac yet so I can't find out :D
1. Are you good at Czech? and if so, what is it like? if English is not better?
2. How does full screen work? if it applies to all applications or just selected ones? Is it down to see the dock? (or whatever it's called :D)
3. I know that the question does not belong to lion, but I would still be happy if someone answered me :)
I want to buy an AIR and I read somewhere that if I install a flash there, it will reduce the battery life by a few hours……is there any truth in that? don't you know
yes, a more expensive battery will last, because flash memory is more energy-efficient and faster for data transfer, but it's still more expensive :D
He wrote I'm counting on Adobe Flash and a reduction in endurance :-)
I have a question guys.
I have a mac book white that is about 3 years old, I have a core 2 duo but only 1GB of RAM. does that mean I wouldn't run Lion on nom? since it requires 2GB ram :( thanks in advance for any info
I have about 3 pairs of 2GB memory sticks from macbooks lying around at home, if anyone wants them for a nominal price, I'll be happy to sell them. wdc@seznam.cz
In my opinion, you would run it, but I think it will be terribly slowed down because 1GB of ram is seriously too little in my opinion, so I wouldn't try to buy it unnecessarily :)
Marek: yes, it will reduce the battery life because the flash memory does not consume so much energy :)
I was wrong, the endurance will increase :)
Is it possible to create an installation DVD directly from lion? I would like to perform a clean installation and not just an upgrade.
According to me, the battery reports that it lasts less than before. In addition, I was expecting a Czech dictionary to check spelling and it is not in the system :-/
Dada: isn't it indexed yet? When I tried the GM, I was upset that it had low endurance and the fan was spinning a lot, but when it indexed, everything was fine.
It's just that parallels didn't work for me in GM right, so I'll see in about 30 minutes if it works in sharp ;-)
Adam: I have Virtual Box and fortunately it runs, I regret the dictionary more
So I'm curious. I've already downloaded it and I'm going to install it. I hope they will let me have Parallels Desktop. I will give the info right away
Question:) In the appleID settings, I had the country (United States), which I changed to (Czech Republic) about an hour ago. But still, when I want to register in the App Store, which I've never done until now, it still shows me only United States, without the option to change it :/ Do you think I should wait for the change, or change it elsewhere? Is there a difference between AppleID and iTunesID - because that's how it seems to me now, even according to what Tomáš Chlebek wrote here in the comments?
I'm just being stupid and I'm looking at a door that just opens out and not in! :D SOLVED… just changed above by pressing HERE… :)
Fantastic system :-))) it worked :-))
Unlike FCP X, Apple really nailed this…
So parallels work.. but you have to download a launcher for those who don't have the latest version, or update it and then it's no problem..
Hello, as it was already mentioned here, does the system really not contain a Czech dictionary for checking spelling? I want to leave 100% English in the system, but I would really like Czech for the spelling :) And one more question: Did the new version of Bootcamp come out with Lion? Thanks
Does anyone know how to upgrade company computers? Firstly, if this upgrade is also for corporate purposes, and then also how to do it, if I have 10 computers, one corporate Apple ID and one card. I suppose buying it once probably won't be enough, right? But how to buy it 10 times? Thanks a lot for the info.
The way some here write about the copied serial number from the info... Try to enter it manually...
Well, now I... Lion has done quite well in its core, yes (it even has the old Czech language in it, as some have asked here), but Lion also has a few bugs that I have found so far. Let's start with iTunes, which will immediately update to 10.4 after Lion. if an app update for iOS devices appears in it and you choose Download this free updates and enter a password - nothing happens. You have to one at a time.
I really miss swipe with three fingers to prev/next page in the whole system. Without it, I'll probably die, and turning off switching full-scr apps won't help, three fingers won't help. It is missing in browsers and in Finder. It's just missing everywhere. Once they dropped all the 4 finger gestures, they could at least move it to them.
Gestures for Desktop and Launchpad are insane. Apple probably didn't think of people with fingernails.
Natural scrolling is not natural at all, unless we are talking about a touch display. Fortunately, this can be turned off.
There will be more, I think... But I suppose we have about a month of almost daily Updates ahead of us.
Starting today, iTunes 10.3.1 on SL also does it... :( Swipe with 3 fingers - check if BetterTouchTool works on Lion, I have it set up on SL through it.
They only write SL. :-)
There is no USB stick with Lion (I don't know if there will be yet or not at all). Anyway, they don't know anything about it in iStyle :(. So the only possible distribution remains the AppStore for now...
The App Store will be better both in terms of convenience and money, so I wouldn't see a problem with that. Then burn it... I posted the instructions in the discussion about the article. But you must before installation.
It's more about the fact that a person simply cannot get Lion without the possibility of online payments.
If it helps anyone, to pay in the AppStore via Raiffeisen Bank you need to apply for a MasterCard/VISA Internetcard, which is a type of debit card. I'm writing this here because I haven't read anywhere how to pay in the AppStore via RB...
Even a regular payment card must be enabled for internet payments. And if someone "doesn't" have the ability to pay online, they didn't call the bank. On the other hand, if someone is rich enough to pay twice the price, they probably don't even need a bank. :-)
No, you can't get into the AppStore with a bank card, you won't go through the CVC code. It just won't take your AppStore card. So the only option is MC Internetcard. Consulted with 2 people at RB.
If you want to have a CLEAN CZECH INSTALLATION - you have to set it up on Snow Leopard before starting the installation.
In System Preferences, go to Language & Text - click Edit List - edit the list of languages and add Czech to the list. Then drag it to the very first place in the list. Next, go to the Formats tab and select the Czech Republic as the region.
If you do not have the Czech localization package installed on Snow Leopard, Snow Leopard will continue to be in English, but the installation of Lion should start entirely in Czech.
I have a MacBook with Leopard 10.5.8 and I tried to order Apple Mac OS X 10.6.3 Snow Leopard Upgrade in a box in several Czech e-shops so that I could then install Lion. But it's sold out everywhere. Does anyone know of any other way to install Lion on Leopard?
Wait for the USB version, it will be available for $69.
I have a question for you, I'm impatient and I wonder how long it will take to get the redeem code from the request :) thank you
Did you manage to find out anything? I couldn't find anything anywhere. Can't wait for the redeem code too. Thanks for the info.
I'm also still waiting, I applied on Wednesday evening and naively hoped that they could sort it out within 24 hours...maybe we'll see.
I can't wait either, we only sent the form yesterday at 9 am and still nothing today, so I called Apple support and a certain Dimitris told me that Apple is busy and that they have to process the request within 48 hours, I quote below:
Dimitris, I am sending you the following answer message:
Hello Jiri
here is the link where you can send an email to the iTunes store in case you don't receive the redemption code within 48 hours:
http://www.apple.com/uk/support/itunes/contact.html?form=app_store&topic=App%20Store%20and%20iBooks&subtopic=Downloading%20and%20updating%20Applications
Have a great day
Regards
Dimitris"
Finally! I just received the code, so it's ready to install…
Hello, I would like to know if it is possible to activate the bar in the Finder that was in the open folder window, where the number of files, marked files and free disk space was initially displayed on the Lion?
View menu. Then Show Path Bar and Status Bar.
After installing Lion, will I still have all the programs I already have installed?
Of course.
Hello,
so today i got two emails from apple. In one there is a saved pdf file, which should contain the redeem code, and in the other is the password to that file. Wow, I unlock the file and there's a bitten apple laughing at me, it says 1 page of 1 and a blank page. Can you advise what I should do? (I've already thought of smashing the computer...)
Hello,
I have a maybe a bit stupid question. I have a MB Pro bought after 6.6 so I am eligible for a free upgrade. Is it possible to download Lion and not install it right away? I use Avid Pro Tools, which do not run under Lion and probably won't for another week (as is usual with Avid). I was told by iStyl that I must submit the application within 30 days of the issue. So I submitted it and now I'm waiting (the next day) for their code to the App Store. Thanks for the reply.
good day, could someone please advise me how to share files in mac os x lion with windows??? in snow leopard it worked without any problems, but in lion I don't see shared devices at all in the finder. thank you very much !
try this > http://macs.about.com/od/filesharing/ss/file-sharing-win7-snow-leopard.htm
it works for me on both sides according to this..
Yesterday 1.9. 2011 that tech warranty process worked and the number read it. I don't know if based on my phone call on August 30.8, 2011 or to everyone.
Hello everyone,
I would like to ask you two things here:
1) I had SNow Leopard OS and switched to Lion - is it possible that this is affecting battery life or does it just seem like the battery life with Lion is lower than with Leopard?
2) if I downloaded Lion through the Appstore, is there any way to put it on a DVD?
Thank you.-)
