Tim Cook, Apple's chief executive, promised during a conference in Sun Valley last month that the company would soon start issuing reports detailing the diversity of the company's workforce. As Cook promised, he did, the first report has been released and includes statistics on the gender and ethnic makeup of Apple's workforce. In addition, the executive director of the Cupertino corporation supplemented the figures with his open letter.

In the letter, Cook highlights the progress his company has made in recent years. However, he points out that he is still not completely satisfied with the numbers and that Apple has plans to further improve the situation.

Apple is committed to transparency, which is why we've decided to publish statistics about the company's racial and gender makeup. Let me first say: As a CEO, I am not happy with these numbers. They are not new to us and we have been working hard to improve them for some time. We are making progress and are committed to being as innovative in the diversity of our workforce as we are in creating new products…

Apple is also a sponsor of the Human Rights Campaign (Human Rights Campaign), America's largest gay and lesbian rights organization, as well as the National Center for Women and Information Technology (National Center for Women & Information Technology), which aims to encourage young women to get involved in science and technology development. The work we do for these groups is meaningful and inspiring. We know we can do more and we will.

Apple's report shows that 7 out of 10 Apple employees worldwide are male. In the US, 55% of the company's employees are white, 15% are Asian, 11% are Hispanic, and 7% are black. Another 2 percent of U.S. employees identify with multiple ethnicities, and the remaining 9 percent chose not to state their race. Apple's report then comes with detailed statistics of the company's personnel composition in the company's technological sector, non-technological sector and in leadership positions.

It is dedicated to diversity in the company one entire page on Apple's website and definitely worth attention. In addition to the mentioned statistics, you will also find the full text of Cook's open letter on it, among other things.
