Although the Apple Watch will most likely arrive on store shelves in more than a month, they can already boast of a prestigious award from the International Forum Design organization. The exact name of the award is 2015 iF Gold Award and it is an annual award for industrial design. The jury called the Apple Watch "an icon".
The idea of combining classic materials such as leather and metal with ultra-modern technologies to create a highly individual fashion accessory resulted in a perfect product offering an unmistakable user experience. Apple Watch scores with every design detail and is an extraordinary piece of design. They are already an icon for us.
The International Forum has been handing out prestigious awards since 1953, and its jury evaluates products according to a wide range of criteria, including craftsmanship, material selection, environmental friendliness, design quality, safety, ergonomics, functionality and degree of innovation. The Apple Watch was one of only two telecommunications products out of 64 contenders to win the top gold category.
The company from Cupertino has collected a number of successes. Among the winners of the iF Design Awards are major Apple products such as the iPhone 6, iPad Air and iMac. Among the previous awardees are also representatives from the range of Apple accessories, including EarPods and the Apple Keyboard. In total, Apple has already received 118 iF Design Awards, with 44 of these awards being in the highest "Gold" category.
They are certainly very happy in Cupertino about such a win for their watch. The design of the Apple Watch is supposed to be one of the main attractions and a key aspect of their marketing. Apple tries to differentiate itself from other manufacturers of "wearables" and stylizes the Apple Watch in the role of a tasteful fashion accessory. Tim Cook and his team want to modernize the fashion industry in their own way through the Apple Watch. They certainly don't plan to just bring another electronic toy for a few enthusiasts and avid tech magazine editors.
After all, the style of the advertising campaign shows where Apple wants to aim with its watch. Apple Watch has appeared so far, for example on the cover of Self magazine, where they were presented by model Candice Swanepoel, inside the iconic fashion magazine Vogue or in Chinese Yoho fashion magazine.
Paid PR and beyond the grave - "I'm going to bleat your majesty" - this is APPLE??
It reminds me of the "doctorates" awarded to politicians by various universities. Basically all universities give them to certain people without any knowledge of anything to back it up. No one knows when the respective university will need the politician in question for the allocated subsidy. In the case of Apple, I would guess that it is one of the main sponsors of the competition, or that it regularly equips the jury with iPads, etc. I am a designer myself, and from a professional point of view, the only thing that interests me about the Apple Watch is the possibility of changing the strap. As for the design, I personally expected a lot more from this company. With this product, she did not cross her own shadow even by chance. The fact that the Apple Watch should perhaps be included among the design icons next to, for example, Starck's stopwatch, is out of the question.
