The year 2024 should be quite pivotal for the mobile phone market. Even if global sales are falling, manufacturers simply can't sleep completely because they wouldn't catch on. Additionally, if the market falls as customers save more, discounting may occur. Proof of this is also the news regarding Samsung's foldable devices.

Samsung is not only among the global market leaders in smartphone sales, as Apple is just behind it, but it is also the manufacturer that produces and sells the most foldable devices. According to unofficial reports, he has already introduced new generations of his folding machines around mid-August, when the 4th generation of the Z Fold and Z Flip models are due to arrive.

Apple made history with its first iPhone, a massive worldwide success that has not waned even after 15 years. No other manufacturer has achieved such success, even if they tried to copy the iPhone as much as possible. Samsung now has a vision of its own, which of course consists of a design form factor based on foldable displays. And it is precisely in this respect that it is now setting the direction and trends.

Its clear advantage is that it has a 4-year lead over Apple - not only in development, and therefore evolutionary changes of already finished and sold products, but also in the fact that it knows how its devices are sold, and therefore how it reacts to them users themselves. Apple is at zero. He can do various surveys, but that's all, he just doesn't have clear data.

It goes without saying that there will already be a prototype of a folding iPhone somewhere in Apple Park. If a company were to throw a pitchfork at this design direction completely, it could really hit the ground running, because if these designs become widespread, it could easily end up with the likes of Nokia, Sony Ericsson, BlackBerry, LG and others. It was these brands that paid the price for the popularity of the iPhone and the lack of interest in their solutions. But if the world wants jigsaw puzzles, and Apple has nothing to offer, how long will it survive on just "regular" iPhones?

The price can knock the neck down

The current Galaxy Z Fold3, i.e. the model that opens like a book, is still a relatively expensive splurge. This is an achievement of Samsung's modern technologies, which the company also pays well. In contrast, the Z Flip3, i.e. the one with a clamshell design, is already more affordable. But Samsung already has its history and experience with jigsaws, which is why it can lighten things up and lower the price.

It can easily keep more models in its portfolio, where the Z Fold can still be the top, the Z Flip still the most equipped model of clamshell construction, and then it can break into the middle class with one of its lightweight models. After all, it has been doing it for many years with the Galaxy A series, which takes the best of the Galaxy S series and has a favorable price tag.

In addition, it has recently been rumored that 2024 should be a pivotal year for the South Korean manufacturer. This year, a mid-range folding device should be introduced, which should have a price tag below 20. It will show whether this form factor will be accepted by other users who do not need to spend huge sums of money on some fashion fads. If it is successful, we will be meeting each other with jigsaw puzzles for many years to come. If, on the other hand, it fails, it will probably be a clear message from users that they do not want similar devices.

Technologies are rushing forward

There is a lot of discussion about the technology of displays and joints, how good they are and how long they last. We know that the Z Flip is a truly long-lasting device that will definitely not break in two after a year. The only blemish on the beauty is the groove in the middle of the display, which does not look very attractive and is not at all user-friendly to the touch. This is probably what Apple is addressing before it actually comes to market with its solution.

Apple is a perfectionist, and even after the departure of Jona Iva, they are trying to maintain design quality. If he then came up with such a solution, he would probably receive a wave of criticism, which he wants to avoid, which is why he is taking his time. The second possibility is that he waits with regard to the success of the competition. However, it is important to remember that time is money. So that he doesn't later regret how long he hesitated, because with this unclear attitude towards this technology, he simply gives everyone else who is already trying it a head start.
