In today's installment of our regular "historical" series, we immediately recall two phenomena - one of them, the Pixar animated film Life of a Beetle, dates back to the late nineties, while the Napster service, whose acquisition will also be discussed today, is more of a millennial affair.

A Bug's Life Comes (1998)

On November 25, 1998, the premiere of the movie A Bug's Life, produced by Pixar Animation Studio, took place. The screening of the animated feature film was preceded by a screening of a short called Geri's Game. The computer-animated adventure comedy Life of a Beetle was conceived as a retelling of Aesop's fable The Ant and the Grasshopper, with Andrew Stanton, Donald McEnery and Bob Shaw co-writing the screenplay. The film immediately found itself at the top of the most watched films during its first weekend.

Roxio buys Napster (2002)

Roxio bought out Napster on November 25, 2002. The American company Roxio was engaged in the production of burning software, and bought practically all the assets of the Napster portal and also acquired intellectual property, including a portfolio of patents. The acquisition was completed in 2003. Napster was once a very popular platform for sharing MP3 files, but free peer-to-peer music sharing was a thorn in the side of artists and record companies, and in 2000 Napster was sued by the music band Metallica. Napster, as it was originally known, was shut down in 2001.
