In our today's return to the past, we will focus on only one single event, which, however, is very important especially in connection with the thematic focus of Jablíčkář. Today is the anniversary of the founding of Apple.

The founding of Apple (1976)

On April 1, 1976, Apple was founded. Its founders were Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, who first met in 1972 - both were introduced by their mutual friend Bill Fernandez. Jobs was sixteen at the time, Wozniak was twenty-one. At the time, Steve Wozniak was assembling so-called "blue boxes" - devices that allowed long-distance calls at no cost. Jobs helped Wozniak sell a few hundred of these devices, and in connection with this business, he later stated in his biography that if it weren't for Wozniak's blue boxes, Apple itself probably wouldn't have been created. Both Steves eventually graduated from college and in 1975 began attending meetings of the California Homebrew Computer Club. Microcomputers of the time, such as the Altair 8000, inspired Wozniak to build his own machine.

In March 1976, Wozniak successfully completed his computer and demonstrated it at one of the Homebrew Computer Club meetings. Jobs was enthusiastic about Wozniak's computer and suggested that he monetize his work. The rest of the story is familiar to Apple fans - Steve Wozniak sold his HP-65 calculator, while Jobs sold his Volkswagen and together they founded Apple Computer. The company's first headquarters was a garage in Jobs' parents' home on Crist Drive in Los Altos, California. The first computer that came out of Apple's workshop was the Apple I - without a keyboard, monitor and classic chassis. The first Apple logo, designed by Ronald Wayne, depicted Isaac Newton sitting under an apple tree. Shortly after Apple was founded, the two Steves attended one last meeting of the Homebrew Computer Club, where they demonstrated their new computer. Paul Terrell, the operator of the Byte Shop network, was also present at the aforementioned meeting, who decided to help sell the Apple I.
