The last part of our "historical" series this week will unfortunately be short, but it deals with one very important event. Today we remember the day when the long-awaited Windows 1.0 operating system was finally officially released. Although it was not well received, especially by experts, its release was of great importance for the future of Microsoft.

Windows 1.0 (1985)

On November 20, 1985, Microsoft released the long-awaited Windows 1.0 operating system. It was the first ever graphical operating system for personal computers that was developed by Microsoft. MS Windows 1.0 was a 16-bit operating system with tiled window display and limited multitasking capabilities. However, Windows 1.0 met with rather mixed reactions - according to critics, this operating system did not use its full potential and its system requirements were too demanding. The last Windows 1.0 update was released in April 1987, but Microsoft continued to support it until 2001.
