Nowadays, we encounter smart mobile phones more often than classic fixed lines. However, this was not always the case, and even in the last century fixed lines were an important part of the equipment of households, offices, businesses and institutions. In today's installment of our "historical" series, in addition to the launch of touch-tone phones, we'll also look at the launch of the Nintendo Wii U gaming console.

Beautiful New Telephones (1963)

On November 18, 1963, Bell Telephone began offering "push-tone" (DTMF) telephones to its customers in Carnegie and Greensburg. Telephones of this type served as successors to older telephones with a classic rotary dial and pulse dialing. Each of the digits on the button dial was assigned a specific tone, the dial was enriched a few years later with a button with a cross (#) and an asterisk (*).

Nintendo Wii U in America (2012)

On November 18, 2012, the new Nintendo Wii U game console officially went on sale in the United States. The Nintendo Wii U was the successor to the popular Nintendo Wii console, and is one of the eighth generation game consoles. The Wii U was also the first Nintendo console to offer 1080p (HD) resolution support. It was available in versions with 8GB and 32GB of memory and was backward compatible with games and selected accessories for the previous Nintendo Wii model. In Europe and Australia, the Nintendo Wii U game console went on sale on November 30.
