In today's installment of our series on historical events, we will once again delve into the waters of cinematography. We will remember the anniversary of the premiere of Jurassic Park, which could boast of admirable special effects and computer animation for its time. In addition to this premiere, we will also commemorate the start of operation of the supercomputer center in Pittsburgh.

Commencement of supercomputer center operations (1986)

On June 9, 1986, the operation of the supercomputing center (Supercomputing Center) in Pittsburgh, USA, was launched. It is a super-powerful computing and networking center in which, at the time of its establishment, the computing power of five supercomputers from the universities of Princeton, San Diego, Illinois and Cornell University was combined. The aim of this center is to provide educational, research and government institutions with the necessary computing power for communication, analysis and data processing for research purposes. The Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center was also a major partner in the TeraGrid scientific computing system.

Jurassic Park Premiere (1993)

On June 9, 1993, the film Jurassic Park directed by Steven Spielberg had its overseas premiere. The spectacular film with the theme of dinosaurs and genetic manipulations was significant mainly because of the special effects used. Its creators decided to use CGI technologies from the workshop of Industrial Light & Magic on a really large scale. The computer animation that was used in the film - although it was really meager compared to today's films - was really timeless for its time, and the film unleashed a worldwide dynomania, especially among children and young people.
