The YouTube platform has been with us for quite some time now. The first video that was recorded on it dates from 2005. We will remember this day in today's episode of our series called Back to the Past.

First YouTube video (2005)

On April 23, 2005, the first ever video appeared on YouTube. It was uploaded by YouTube co-founder Jawed Karim on his channel called “jawed”. Karim's school friend Yakov Lapitsky was behind the camera at the time, and in the video we could see Karim standing in front of the elephant enclosure at the San Diego Zoo. In a short video, Jawed Karim says that elephants have big trunks, which he says is "cool". The video was titled "Me at the ZOO". It wasn't long before YouTube began to fill up with all kinds of content, including short amateur videos.

The YouTube platform is now owned by Google (which bought it a year after it was founded) and is one of the most visited websites in the world. The service has gradually gained a number of new functions, including the possibility of live broadcasts, charity collections, monetization of videos or perhaps the recording of short videos in the style of TikTok. YouTube is still the second most visited website ever, and boasts a number of interesting numbers. For a long time, the video clip for the former summer hit Despacito was the most viewed YouTube video, but in the course of last year it was replaced on the gold bar by the video clip Baby Shark Dance.
