Today's part of our "historical" series is quite rich in interesting events. Let's recall, for example, the first use of the name "iPhone" - albeit a slightly different spelling - which was not related to Apple at all. In addition, we recall, for example, the founding of the eBay server (or its predecessor) or the day when Nokia transferred its division to Microsoft.

The first “iPhone” (1993)

Are you confused by the association of the term "iPhone" with the year 1993? The truth is that at that time the world could only dream of iPhone-type smartphones. On September 3, 1993, Infogear registered a trademark for the name "I PHONE". It was supposed to mark her communication terminals. A little later, the company also registered the name in the form of "IPhone". When Inforgear was bought by Cisco in 2000, it also acquired the mentioned names under its wing. Cisco later launched its own Wi-Fi phone under this name, but not long after Apple came with its iPhone. The dispute over the appropriate name was eventually resolved through an out-of-court settlement.

Founding of eBay (1995)

Programmer Pierre Omidyar founded an auction server called AuctionWeb on September 3, 1995. The first item to be sold on the site was reportedly a broken laser pointer - it went for $14,83. The server gradually gained in popularity, reach and size, later it was renamed eBay and today it is one of the largest sales portals in the world.

Nokia under Microsoft (2013)

On September 3, 2013, Nokia announced that it was selling its mobile division to Microsoft. At that time, the company had been facing a crisis for a long time and was in an operating loss, and Microsoft welcomed the possibility of acquiring device production. The price of the acquisition was 5,44 billion euros, of which 3,79 billion cost the mobile division as such and 1,65 billion cost the licensing of patents and various technologies. In 2016, however, there was another change, and Microsoft transferred the mentioned division to one of the subsidiaries of the Chinese Foxconn.
