In addition to this event, we will also commemorate the publication of the source code for the Windows CE 3.0 operating system.

The Moon Landing (1969)

On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin in the Lunar Module detached from the Apollo 11 Command Module and began their descent to the surface of the Moon. The computers started reporting several alarms during the descent, but operator Steve Bales at NASA told the crew that they could continue the descent without any worries. Neil Armstrong guided the lunar module to land at 20:17:43 UTC.

Microsoft released the source code for Windows CE 3.0 (2001)

On July 20, 2001, Microsoft announced plans to release the source code for the Windows CE 3.0 operating system. It was the first time that absolutely everyone, from hardware manufacturers to software developers to ordinary users, got the opportunity to look into the source code. At the time of publication, the only requirement was a Hotmail account, the source code of only the basic part of the operating system was available to the public.
