In one of the past parts of our series called Back to the Past, we mentioned the patent registration for Engelbert's mouse. In today's article, we will return to it - we will remember the day when this device was first publicly demonstrated. In addition, the release of the Windows 2.0 operating system will also be discussed.

Engelbert's Mouse Premiere (1968)

December 9, 1968 became a significant day not only for Douglas Engelbert. At that time, he and his team of research experts gave a ninety-minute public presentation, during which he showed a number of innovations, such as hypertext or video conferencing. But the computer mouse was among the most important points of the presentation. The so-called Engelbert mouse was far from the mice that were used in connection with personal computers a few decades later, but it was the first public presentation of a peripheral of this type, which at the time was watched by about a thousand participating professionals from the field of computer technology.

Windows 2.0 Comes (1987)

Microsoft released its Windows 9 operating system on December 1987, 2.0. The new version of Microsoft's operating system for personal computers brought a number of novelties and innovations to users, one of the most significant of which was a new way of displaying windows and working with them. Unlike Windows 1.0, in the Windows 2.0 operating system it was possible to minimize and maximize individual windows, the system also allowed them to overlap each other. However, the Windows 2.0 operating system did not gain much popularity - real fame came only in the nineties with the arrival of Windows 3. Microsoft offered support for Windows 2.0 for a really long time - it ended on December 31, 2001.
