Copying various products by other manufacturers is not unusual in the world of technology. Today we will recall one such case - the arrival of the Franklin Ace computer, which in some respects copied technologies from Apple. In the second part of our article, we recall the day when the Yahoo.com domain was registered.

Here Comes Franklin Ace (1980)

On January 18, 1980, Franklin Electronic Publishers introduced its new computer, the Franklin Ace 1200, at the CP/M trade show. The computer featured a 1MHz Zilog Z80 processor and featured 48K RAM, 16K ROM, a 5,25-inch floppy disk drive, and four slots for further expansion. However, the computer, whose price at the time was roughly 47,5 thousand crowns, was not sold until four years later, and became known to the public mainly because its manufacturers copied the ROM and operating system code from Apple.

Yahoo.com Registration (1995)

On January 18, 1995, the yahoo.com domain was officially registered. This website originally bore the rather lengthy title "David and Jerry's Guide to the World Wide Web", but its operators - Stanford University students David Filo and Jerry Yang - eventually preferred the abbreviation for "et Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle". Yahoo soon became a popular search portal, gradually adding services like Yahoo Mail, Yahoo News, Yahoo Finances, Yahoo Groups, Yahoo Answers and others. In 2007, Yahoo and the Flickr platform were integrated, and in May 2013, the blogging platform Tumblr also came under Yahoo.
