Although Apple's Newton MessagePad did not go down in history with dizzying sales, it nevertheless forms an integral part not only of the company's history, but also of technology as such. The presentation of the first model of this apple PDA falls on today. In addition to him, in today's episode of the Back to the Past series, we will also remember the founding of the Mozilla company.

Apple introduces the Original Newton MessagePad

On August 3, 1993, Apple Computer introduced its original Newton MessagePad. It was one of the first PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) in the world. The relevant term was allegedly first used by then Apple CEO John Scully in 1992. Technically, the Newton MessagePad had nothing to be ashamed of – for its time it was in many ways a timeless device. Although it did not break sales records, the Newton MessagePad became the inspiration for many other devices of this type. The first MessagePad was equipped with a 20MHz ARM processor, had 640 KB of RAM and was equipped with a black and white display. Power was provided by four AAA batteries.

Founding of Mozilla

On August 3, 2005, Mozilla Corporation was founded. The company was fully owned by the Mozilla Foundation, but unlike it, it was a commercial company with the goal of generating profit. However, the latter was mainly invested in projects related to the non-profit Mozilla Foundation. Mozilla Corporation ensures the development, promotion and distribution of products such as the Mozilla Firefox browser or the Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail client, but its development is gradually being moved under the wings of the recently established Mozilla Messaging organization. The CEO of Mozilla Corporation is Mitchell Baker.
